I personally don't think that he should dive the number 3 car. First of all, he is not in the same league as his dad when it comes to driving. He is decent, but he will never have the fame that his dad has. I think his fan base is largely made of of Dale Sr. fans who have just accepted him into the racing family.
Now that he is leaving the DEi racing association, I think he should move on and make a name for himself with another team and sep out of the shadow of his father.

Right now the only person driving the number 3 is Richard Childress, who owns the car (the Earnhardts never did). He will gain his own fame as other sons of famous racers have (look at Kyle Petty--nowhere in the league of his father, but he also doesn't strive to make that his goal in life). Junior IS moving ahead and maturing--he's making a life-changing decision at the same age his father did. He also didn't say anything about driving the number 3...it was in the article as a possibility was all.

If he's wanting to step out from his father's shadow by leaving DEI, driving the 3 car would just be a step into another part of that shadow. Ultimately, he will drive the 3 car, but I don't think it will be now.

The reason he's leaving DEI really doesn't have to do with living under his dad's shadow; it's more about the ownership and how things are being handled at the top. He wants championships and feels that the time is right to move on. If anything, I think that he will find his own niche.

It would be a sad day having Jr. leave DEI but if that is how he feels it is his choice. If anyone is to ever drive the #3 car again it should be him and only him or his brother. I think it would be wrong to have that number associated with anyone except an Earnhart.

According to what I've read, Jr. asked for 51% of DEI (whether that was shared with his sister Kelley wasn't mentioned) but considering that Theresa (his stepmom) helped build up Earnhardt's empire, I think they could have been more equitable about it. And there are three children involved of his (he has his sister Kelley and another brother who races), plus Theresa has one of her own. It's just going to be a terrible thing to not have an Earnhardt driving for DEI...I agree, only he (or his brother or sister) should be allowed to drive that car (currently the only driver of the car and only for special ocassions). Ultimately though, that decision is up to Childress. I did hear some rumblings that he may go with Gibbs, but I guess it'll all unfold in the coming months.

I don't think that he should drive the number 3 car right now. He needs to go to a team where he can accomplish his goals of winning races and championships without being accoused of "riding his daddy's coat tail".
But like Dale Jr said, if he does drive the number 3, it will be later in his career and I think that would be a good time for him to do that.

Girl you are so right! I believe he'll get there, but he needs to be his own man right now in his life...probably harder now that his dad's gone and sharing the same name...I'd love to see him on a team with Tony Stewart--now THAT would be a force to be reckoned with!

I think it would be good for him to go with childress and If anyone was to ride the number 3 it should be jr. I would disagree fo anyone else to ride with that number, I think it would be an honor for jr to do that. I think he would feel close to is dad. I hope it all works out for him!
