Preeclampsia

Have you ever had preeclampsia during a pregnancy? Did you have to give birth early because of it? What were your symptoms? I developed PE during the end of my pregnancy. I gained 9lbs in one week during my 37th week and I had VERY high blood pressure. My Dr. sent me to the hospital to be monitored. I was monitored for 2 days before I was induced because it was getting worse. I had a full term baby but he was 2 weeks early because of the induction.

I had PE with my last pregnancy. Very high blood pressure, sever headaches, feet the size of clubs (I couldn't even wear shoes). They had to induce me at 34 weeks, at the time of delivery my pressure was 225/125. I had never been so scared in my life, the doctors were saying we had to get the baby now, they were afraid I was going to have a stoke or something. Thankfully I won't ever have to worry about it again, we had already decided 6 was more than enough.

The only thing we lack is quiet time lol. Never do we have the same day twice, can't complain that our life is dull.

I love children and if I didn't have to be pregnant and money was not an issue then I would have a bunch of them. They make your like feel so complete and the more the merrier. I admire people with big families because it's not for everyone.

Yeah, it was pretty scary for me too. In a matter of two days I was so swollen that I looked like a ballon. I gained 9lbs in one week just from all the swelling. Wow, 6 kids! I couldn't imagine having 6 kids but it must be a wonderful experience. I bet your household does not lack love and support.

I had severe preeclampsia with my son and was induced at 36 weeks. I really didn't have any physical symptoms...my ankles and feet were badly swollen (from a size 8.5 shoe to size 11! lol), but that's no longer considered a diagnostic symptom of pre-e since nearly every woman experiences swelling. I had high bp, protein in my urine, and decreasing platlets when I was induced.

Thanks for your response! I did not have protein in my urine but I did have extremely high BP, extreme weight gain (due to water retention) and decreasing blood platlets. PE is no joke. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm glad you and your son turned out fine though.

Yes, with my first pregnancy I was preeclamptic. I was induced a week early, and put on magnesium during my labor and delivery. I was also on bed rest for the last 2 months of that pregnancy due to the blood pressure. My symptoms were headaches, high blood pressure, swelling and protein in my urine. With my last 3 pregnancies, I had PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension) but thankfully it never turned into Pre-E.

I also had headaches, high blood pressure and swelling but luckily I did not get protein in my urine. I was already full-term when I was diagnosed but it progressed really fast so i'm glad I was at a point in my pregnancy where is was safe to deliver.

Yes, I had preeclampsia with all 3 kids. I had the worse case of it with my first. I started swelling badly towards the end. Also my blood pressure was high each time. As a result, I was induced with each of them. My daughter was born 4 weeks early, and both of my sons were born 3 weeks early.

I only have one child and I fear that I will develop PE with future children. I'm sorry you had it with all three kids but thank goodness they did not come too early. My roommate at the hospital had to give birth at 7 months because of it. Very scary!

I have had toxemia / preeclampsia with 2 out of my five pregnancies. I never made it to full term with either of those 2. My son was supposed to be born on may 31 and he was born on may 9th so he was almost a month early .. All through the pregnancy the only thing I experienced was the water retension to the point where I was almost bed ridden, the worst thing was my bp was great until I went into labor then it sky rocketed and the jerk I had for a dr gave me 2 18 gauge needles full of magnesium sulfate straight into my viens .. the nurses literally pack me into ice becuase it felt like I was on fire from the inside out. Now with my daughter I had the bp problems and was bed ridden and she was due around christmas but was born November 17. The delivary was fine because I was able to go back to my old gyno and he made sure that every thing was in check and started me on a drip before they induced me because my blood work was to bad to conitinue the pregnancy. It was not fun to have this but the end was well worth it while I held my child and kissed her forehead and his forehead.
