You are doing some gardening, and need exactly 4liters of water to mix up some special formula for your award winning roses. But you only have a 5-liter and a 3-liter bowl, but do have access to plenty of water... How would you measure exactly 4 liters? Come on...

Firstly, fill the 5-liter bowl and pour it's contents into the 3-liter bowl. Then, you remain with 2 liters in the 5-liter bowl. Throw away the contents of the 3-liter bowl. Next, you pour those 2 liters into the 3-liter bowl. Next, you fill the empty 5-liter bowl and then pour a liter into the 3-liter bowl which originally contained 2 liters. Thus, you end up with 4 liters in the 5-liter bowl. :) Throw away the 3-liter bowl and enjoy the 4 liters ;)

Fill 5 lit jug Pour it in 3 lit jug = 2 lit left over in 5 lit Throw away 3lit = 3 lit jug empty pour 2 lit of 5lit jug in 3 lit = 5 lit empty and 3 lit contains 2 lit. Again fill 5 lit jug Now fill 3 lit by pouring 1 lit from 5 lit jug Now finally 5 lit jug contains 4 lit

I would mix up only 2 litres of water mixed with half of the amount of special formula specified for 4lites... If you need to use the whole 4 litres I would then mix up another batch.....

You fill-up the 5-liter bowl and pour 3/5 of it to the 3-liter bowl. Now throw the water in the 3-L bowl and pour in it the remaining 2-L from the 5-L bowl. Fill-up the 5-L bowl again and pour 1-L from it to the 3-L bowl. The 5-L bowl now contains 4-liters. Am I right?

First fill 5 lit jug Now pour it in 3 lit jug (left over 2lit in 5 lit) Empty 3 lit jug Pour remaining 2 lit (of 5 lit) in 3 lit jug Now again fill 5 lit jug Now 3lit jug need 1 lit Pour 1 lit in 3lit from 5lit jug Now 5 lit jug contains 3 lit
