What is the ideal job for a teenager in high school?

I've always encouraged my kids to work, I think it helps them learn responsibiliy and keeps them busy. My 17 year old son works in a movie theater. He really likes his job, and it is nice for us because his family members that live in the same house get to go to the movies for free. So we get to go to the movies as often as we want for free.

I commend you on your parenting. I agree with your thoughts, too. Keep up the great work.
Any job that is away from drinking is a good job. Sales in a store is good too.

I worked at fast food places when I was a teen in high school. They seemed to be most flexible about working around my school schedule and it was a fairly easy job to get since they're usually looking for help.
When our kids were in high school, fast food places still seemed to work out best for them too. Our oldest daughter worked in a movie theater for awhile when she was in college. She enjoyed it and got to watch quite a few movies for free too.
I think it was a good lesson in responsibility and how to handle money for our kids to work. It also gave them extra money of their own and weren't asking us for money!

I'm not a fan of fast food places myself, but I know a lot of people that work at them and it seems they're ok. There are some places that really don't want to work with their younger employees to make sure they can still attend school and what not, but some of them are pretty ok about it. I think it really depends on preference. I refuse to work in fast food, I just do not want to do it. I'd rather do other jobs, such as day care, or cleaning or something else that does not revolve around food.

I think it teaches them responsibility and give them a little extra spending money. Too many kids are given everything without having to work for it and they do no appreciate it near as much.

i was really into gymnastics when i was still in school. i would leave school and go straight to the gym to teach classes. It was good for me because i never got out late and was home for a decent time and still had time for school work and i really loved the job.
