Feng Shui - I have just changed from a wooden to a metal desk . . .

This isn't exactly superstition but I didn't know which category to use lol. I have been working at a wooden desk but I have been evicted into another room due to family pressures and I now use a metal desk. It is much better in that it is a proper computer desk, but what qualities in my working and thinking should I find enhanced, and what could be the negatives of using metal for working. I am developing web sites and an a creative writer. I would be very interested in all your comments about this as it will be interesting to see whether my experiences bear out the traditional thinking on wood/metal. Many thanks, I am looking forward to this one!

I think the elements you need to used depend on you as a person, some of us are wood, some metal, some fire, some air. What are the effects of static from the screen on the metal desk? I often get static shocks from my car, although I do not have nylon carpets. Feng Shui brings balance and the blaance of your room can be affected by the position of the furniture as well as it's composition. I think the best way to have any room is the way that makes you feel most comfortable.

Funny thing is, Rainbow, I get absolutely awful static shocks from the car handle, but so far absolutely nothing bad from this one. I don't think I am in the best place as the window is away and at the side of me but it is the only room left after everyone else is accommodated. I wondered whether the metal is more condusive to me actually sitting down and working as opposed to daydream flitting through the engines. I do love the internet but I should really work harder. Unfortunately I feel very out of balance as a lot of my own possessions, particularly books, have had to go into store, and I don't really feel as if I live here at the momenet, so I was hoping at least I would benefit from extrra energy to work hard and get them their own place lololol.

What you have to do is make yourself a little haven somewhere, your computer table may be as good a place as any if that's all the space for yourself you can get, put some of your favourite things there and even tho' not ideal it may be some comfort. Maybe the cool metal gives you a calm feeling which could help you concentrate or maybe just getting out of the lounge for some down time in another room is working especially with things you love put away. I have started popping some of my things on a blanked off window, there's a picky of dads old cat, a lead crystal hummingbird shotglass, there were 2 in the bathroom but Roo broke one, a double cat mirror Caroline gave me, and it all hides behind a lounge curtain, the crystals in the next window put rainbows in there in a morning so I'm planning on putting little bits of me in there til the kids find it.

Oh I do not have space for any bits and pieces, i have so many files and folders there is currently no room for. I have worked out a plan of works and hope to get my novel finished by August - I don't know about a wishing well, it will need to be a miracle worker lol. I do find this desk much firmer and it is faster to type with less typos as the keyboard is not springboarding around all over the place. Still haven't found anyone who knows whether the metal will put steel into my desire to succeed as a writer though :-)

Hmmm you may have a good point there Lakota. Does it make any different what the desk is made of if it has an insulating layer of two to three feet of paper? Probably not lololol. Metal is supposed to energise or something, and I can't find where I read it so I was hoping somebody who knows about Feng Shui could tell me about it. So far all the Feng Shui people are avoiding me like bad chi lololol.

Hi Shelagh, OH well I do believe in feng shui, to a degree as it has worked for me with some to of the things I do with it. I have not heard any thing to do with feng shui in regards to wooden or metal desks. But that is wonderful tht you are developing web sites and being a creative writer.

Flattery will get you everywhere Kathy, lol. I understand that there are different qualities in the personality enhanced by wood, metal, earth and air, and I wonder whether I shall be able to complete what I call "me novel" now that I am knocking on metal, not wood lol.

We know that the soil has much microelement in it.These microelement does something to one's health. If they does better to one's health,We say the "fneg shui" of the building site is very good.Althouth some ancient people do not know the science in it,they do know whether it is good. As we all know,it is better to build a house facing the south.Cause the house can get enough sunshine. It is also a part of "feng shui" theroy. There are many other theroies about "feng shui".They are do something with chinese culture.Such as build the important part of the building in the center, etc.

Well, I certainly believe in ley lines and in the magnetic pull of the moon, and I can see how a system of explanations for the best alignment of energies such as feng shui would make perfect sense. What nobody seems to know is the effect of changing from a wooden to a metal desk. Actually I can say at the moment I have got a lot more done since I have changed desks!

I have looked through all of these comments. Each comment has its special view.I want to disscuss something about "feng shui".The ancient chinese people treat it as something having super power. It mainly tells that the environment can affects people's future and their fortune. And the theory is developed year by year.Nowadays it has developed to a theory a lot of science. When you build a house somewhere, the style of house should be determined by the environment. The house styles are different from each other in southern ,northern, eastern and western part of China. When choose a site for a now house,it is suggested to be built near the water and the mountains.People can not live without water. In the ancient time, people could hut animals and got fish in these kind of places.

Yes, I agree with all of that entirely and it is a shame that modern builders do not take these things into account, as everything goes toward a smoother living. Do you know anything specific as to whether metal will help my concentration?
