Until recently my wife didn't know that drinking a glass of milk after eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was a great way to get the peanut butter stuck inside your mouth to loosen up. I was wondering what other kinds of tricks for food are out there that I might have missed. After all she went almost 30 years without knowing that and I thought everyone knew.

If you like spicy food you should know that drinking orange juice will take the heat out of foods like jalepenos. Yes, I found that out the hard way. I have a tendency to overbake my cookies but my husband likes them soft and chewy instead of crisp. I just throw a slice of fresh bread in the cookie jar and a few hours later those cookies are nice and soft. It is like magic! Of course I will never tell him my secret!

both great tips! My wife loves spicy foods but some times her eyes water from them. I can't handle spicy at all, ever, but at least now I don't have to listen to her complain about it being too hot. :-) The bread trick is great for cookies, I'm going to have to try that next time we have a batch.

Stale cereal? If you nuke it (in a cereal bowl) for a few seconds, stir it up, and then nuke for a few more seconds, it will come back to life! Just let it "set up" for about 30 seconds after you pull it out -- until it's not hot any more -- and it will be like it was before you ever opened the box. This works because of how microwaves work. They excite water molecules and make them dance around. All that dancing creates friction, which in turn heats up the food. A side effect of this process is the loss of water in the form of vapor/steam, which is exactly what you want to refresh stale cereal, since atmospheric moisture is what causes "stale"ness. By the way, this also works for tortilla chips. Just be sure to check both cereal and chips every few (7 or so) seconds, for scorching.

Sweet! With a toddler that likes to leave his cereal bowl sitting for hours before tossing it all over, this will definitely help. Thanks so much for the response!
