People who misrepresent, just for attention

Does it bother you when someone hears something, or takes a joke, and or story to make it there own? I am not mentioning names, but several weeks ago, someone did that. I first really laughed at the story, but later, I kept thinking hmmmmmmm, seems like heard that story once before. Sure enough, it was a joke, and it has circulated around. I have had three friends send me this joke. It make me feel set up, and that others were also set up, believing that the story was true. I don't want to give details as to what it was, but this person knows who they are. It is pathetic, that someone needs attention, so bad, that they have to resort to that type of thing. This place is to be a place where you can come and be honest, not lie, and deceive everyone. Does this bother anyone else too, or am I making more of it?

I think I undertsand what you're saying, but maybe a similar situation happened that seemed like the one presented in the joke. That has happened to me before. I had heard a joke and a friend later presented it as something that had happened to her and I asked her if she was being honest and she was offended. I later learned that what she said was true. I think a lot of humor mimics reality, so it could have been possible in this circumstance. But there are also people who put themselves into a joke to make it seem personal to gain more attention or a bigger laugh. I think that some one who would do this either doesn't know that what they are doing is offensive, or they just really crave the attention. I wouldn't get so upest about it, but rather feel good in the fact that you can tell the difference between a joke and real life. Have a good day!

I used to write poetry from time to time. It helped me get my emotions out. I wrote one when I first met my partner, it was dedicated to him and my love for him. I sent it to my friend and asked for her opinion. She emailed me and said she loved it and how sweet it was and all that. A few month later, she was supposed to have been getting married. On her blog, she posted a poem that she said SHE'D written. Of course, it was MY poem. I left her a public comment and said basically, "Either take this work down or I'll sue you for copyright infringement, because that's MY work, not yours and you know it." She did remove the poem but she never apologized and she never spoke to me again. People who misrepresent for attention make me angry. Are their lives really so pathetic that they have to stoop so low? A joke is a joke, but when you take something that's not yours and then try to pass it off as your own, you're going to get caught out sooner or later.

That is horrible, that happened. Talk about making you angry. To put yourself in a funny tale, and say it was you, only to find out you get three different people telling you this joke, is really low, and desperate for attention. I agree, they will eventually get caught.

I do agree with you on that. It makes me mad when they delete good quality postings. I miss seeing my friends too, and wish they would come back. Thank you for responding.

i really do not understand here what is your problem... this is something really natural...and has to happen.... on the other hand i feel that you are really angry with someone.. and do not want to mention it to him/her.... you want to make sure they know you are angry and then you want them to apologize to you... isnt this true

I have a friend who complained last month about this kind of faulty set up. He knew this poster on a personal basis and didn't feel good about the way this poster kept spreading lies. I agree that this is supposed to be a place for honest discussions and sharing but anyone can easily access and register at mylot. I have to admit that I'm growing tired of this place. Its like I'm losing my touch here. I can't feel the excitement anymore. I can easily detect the underlying lies of some threads here and its sickening to know the audacity of some members posting discussions like that. You are not the only one, crickethear. A lot are noticing it too.

Yeah, it is really getting to me too. Between the tales, and stupid questions, it can get to you. Maybe it is just a faze. I hope so.

yea this bothers me as well. come on people, be yourself! it's not that hard to think of somethign to talk about here on mylot! Dont shoot for questions that ou think will guarantee 50+ responses! just ask a question, someone will answer it! Stealing is the worst thing you can do! and dont think you wont get caught, cause you will, and you will be punished!
