Do you keep a paper journal daily?

I've been an avid journal writer for about twenty years now, but it wasn't until I found the embodiment community at livejournal.com that I really became serious about personal writing on a daily basis. I can't begin to describe (well, maybe I can) how gratifying this experience was. I'm wondering why others might keep a journal on a daily basis? Do you write to cleanse your mind, get going on another creative project, heal from something, overcome depression or something completely different?

I used to write every day, like a diary, but now trying to earna living online and with so many other running around responsibilities, my creativity has gone a bit by the wayside. I would like to start again, maybe in the form of a blog. Do you have your writings public? Or are they just a set of private memoirs? I do totally agree that writing about your thoughts and feelings can act as a great catharsis and sometimes it has helped me resolve internal issues within myself than letting other's take the burden of my troubled soul lol.

I can see how so many projects can give you this form or writer's block - it's happened to me and it took some time to get over. It's frustrating, isn't it? For me, right now, I'm experiencing this with art. There are pieces I'd like to complete and others I'd like to start, but I feel like I should be doing something more important (like earning online, for example). I need to figure out a way to make it all work because I don't feel whole, otherwise. Yes, I keep a journal on livejournal.com that mirrors my paper journal very much. I tend to write about things there that I need comments, suggestions and opinions about.

I did for a very long time... to keep my life in perspective, clear my mind, etc. I haven't really kept a regular print journal the last 6.5 years because my boyfriend would read them and then give me crap about what I wrote. We are in the process of a break up, so I'll probably be going back to my paper journal.

I'm sorry you had to go through that - I had an issue with my privacy being invaded, too, which prompted me to throw away eight years worth of journals. Looking back, I wish I hadn't done that and the act stifled my writing for four years. I've kept every journal since I started writing again, though. I hope you can get back into it - like you've described, it's very cleansing.
