I was just sitting here reading a wedding invite I received from a friend. And was getting ready to RSVP. When I realized that I have no idea what exactly it means. I'm talking about RSVP. What do the initials RSVP stand for?

RSVP is an abbreviation of the French phrase “Repondez S'il Vous Plait”. When a RSVP invitation is sent, it denotes that the receiver should send his confirmation or regrets regarding his attendance in the ceremony so that sender can make proper arrangements for the expected number of guests.

Daycarepal is exactly right. That is what RSVP stands for. It really irritates me when people don't RSVP when asked. You need to RSVP either way, if you will attend or not. This leaves out the guessing game.

Strange! You were getting ready to RSVP, even though you don't know what is it? Well, I said someone already answered you. But if I were to answer honestly... Then sorry, I don't know. I never heard of this "RSVP" thing. Didn't even know it existed. I hope others could help you.

Oh, ok. I though you were willing to RSVP, even though you didn't know what it meant. Now I got it.

Well I knew it meant that I was telling them if I can come or not. I was just wondering what the letters RSVP stood for.

"Répondez s'il-vous-plaît" or "Réservez s'il-vous-plaît", a French phrase that translates to "Please respond" or "Please book your place". It is asking you to respond to the invite to either say you will attend or you won't attend.

Respondez s'il vous plait. French, literally translated to mean reply if you please.
