Okay I did a discussion asking whether you were a people person or loner. Now the question is..I was just wondering this theory of mine....it seems from the responses that an awful lot of people who are loner types have cats ...I'm just wondering if there's a connection...Not that people with dogs might not be loners too..but I think there's a bit of a pattern here..Cats tend to be more aloof, independent..yes, they can be cuddly too, warm and affectionate...
So what do you think..do you think there's a pattern here...that cat owners tend to also be loners?

I think you might have something. Now that I think really think about it I do some people that are loners and they do have cats. So I think there could be a pattern. And I also think that some cats themselves tend to be loners. For example I have 3 of them and 2 of them are always with me when Im on the computer they are in the same room. And they sleep with me. Now the other one tends to stay to her self. But she is effection with me only when she wants to be. What do you think about that?

My--how do you get any work done on the computer with two kitties nearby--LOL---That's interesting though..having a loner cat!!! Over the years since I've had a variety of cats, I've found each with their own distinct personality...If I had judged that all cats were like my very first one, Babette, I would never have bothered with more cats...talk about a loner! But then Friskey came into our lives and he was a huggle kitty--real affectionate--he couldn't get enough attention!

Well I've been thinking about this since it came up in a previous discussion of yours, and I honestly don't have a definative answer. I think it is possible that because cats are renowned to be very proud and independant creaures, who like to spend their time alone, that their personalities attract people who are quite introspective themselves, and tend to despise too much noise, and hustle and bustle going on. A cat will normally steer clear of large crowds, and noisy children, and I admit that I do the same, but whether all cat lovers are loners, or many loners start to "adopt" cats for company when they are alone, is almost impossible to answer I think.

Very good response rosie!!! Its almost like which came first...the chicken or the egg..cat lovers who are loners..did that come first..or loners who adopt cats...good point

I was thinking more in the lines that cat owners are the loner types..but I can see how dog owners can be loners as well...maybe pet owners in general are loners??

Well, as i psoted on an earlier discussion, i ma definately more of a loner, and as anyone would realise from my discussions or even my Avatar, i'm also a cat owner! I'm sure you can do the maths on that one. Whether you tihnk that is just a coincidence or not is up to you.

that might be so.when i think about it,a lot of friends i have with cats are loners for the most part.
although..you're never truly alone with a multi-cat family.they follow me around all day long LOL
(not that i mind;))

This is a good probability, but my question would be do the loners get cats before or after establishing their loner tendancies. I have always had cats even through both of my marriages. So I don't have a cat because I am a loner I have a cat and then got to be a loner. Nevertheless it is an interesting correlation.

I couldn't say for sure either, since I've had cats ever since I was about five years old...It was actually my mom's idea to get our first cat then..so who knows...maybe she was basically the loner type too???

This is very interesting. I am a loner, and I have two cats and love them. But, my husband is not a loner, and he loves cats.

Hmmm...it is very good question...I have 2 dogs and one cat...I am people's person...however I like to be at home a lot. I like to go and see people, attend concerts, galleries and museums...walk in the park...meet people at the party or in privet home...but I like to come home and be with my animals.
There are some days when I prefer not to see anyone...so maybe...I copy my independent cat....
I also work as self-employed...:))(cat influence..)

I'm not sure where I stand on this but I think it's a very interesting theory!

Their might be a connection. But I have seen cats have different personalities too. I don't think there is a solid connection. Of course, you could do a study and look at the data and come to this conclusion (regarding your theory). I don't think it proves much. You could say that loners like cats over other pets, which is different than saying cat owners tend to be loners, in my view.

My cats over the years have had a real diversity of personalities too..I tend to think maybe the tie is that since one, you don't have to walk cats, you don't socialize as much..as an observant person..most dog owners are a little more outgoing..they have to walk their dogs, and of course will chit chat when coming upon another dog owner..Does that make sense?? LOL

I have six cats, but am not a loner. I have many friends and of course my family to boot. I have noticed a few who don't have friends or family that have cats, but I think they are few and far between.

I'm not sure there's any connection that would hold up statistically, but cats are certainly good companions for loners. I've had cats and dogs, and loved each equally. Now I'm totally a cat person--partly landlord restrictions, and partly because it's much easier to take care of a cat. No walks in the snow and rain, for one thing. It's tempting to say that my Lizzie has become more like me as she's grown older, but she started out as an aloof little beast, and has actually mellowed and become a little friendlier as she's grown older. Just the opposite of me.

Heheh..an aloof little beast huh--that's funny..Glad to know she mellowed out though

That is a good question. I know from my own experience that I am a loner AND a cat person. My husband also loves cats, but is a little more outgoing than I am, though not much more. I never thought of this "theory" before, but it makes sense to me.

Not in my case. I would like to be a loner, but no one else in my life will hear of such a thing! It must be because I also have two dogs, and that balances out the 'leave me be' vibe. Unfortunately!

So the rest of the people in your life are people folk while you would like to be a loner...have I got that?? LOL

No its not true fact .As Person tend to be loner when he/she has some tendency to be loner. So it does not depend on the type of pets .Even a dog owner can too tend to be loners.
