What's so unhealthy about energy drinks?

I've recently started drinking energy drinks (monster, rockstar) on a regular basis. They energize me for hours, physically and mentally, and don't have the low after effects of coffee or other caffeinating substances. I thank the taurine. But I've heard lots of things about how unhealthy energy drinks are. How so? I understand consuming lots of caffeine is bad, but what else?

Energy drinks are so full of ready to be absorbed calories. What's worse, you don't get full drinking them. So you could have already drunk a gallon a day and you just urinate them. Unlike food where your stomach can protest that it's full. So you eat what you need. The bad thing is that the calories if unused are converted to fat. That's why energy drinks are recommended only to those people who lives stressed and highly-active lives. Just think if you're an ordinary office worker who only sit in the office for hours yet you drink sports drink. This was just told to me. I am yet to check the validity. But it does make sense, I suppose.

So, in other words, it's just empty calories like candies are? Strange, though, since most energy drinks are just 200 calories per bottle and with the boost in metabolism that caffeine and taurine give you, I thought it wouldn't have much of an effect on your fatness. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it 8]

I think all the refined sugars and artificial ingredients are pretty unhealthy. I'm sure it's fine to have energy drinks every once in a while, but if ou drink them too often, your body has to work to "cleanse" out the artificial stuff.

The bad thing about energy drinks usually is that they're packed with sugar, caffine and guarana. I'm not sure what exactly guarana is, but it certainly isn't something the body would get naturally. :/

It's mostly just the overload of caffeine with no good nutrients in them. I'm pretty sure energy drink shave more caffeine than coffee, and get your heart pumping at an unusually fast rate, which is unnatural, of course. Otherwise, they're no worse than drinking coffee or any other highly-caffeinated drink.
