Hi friends - have you ever collected your credit card points and redeemed them for airmiles/fun rewards they offer ? I did try it last month and got some amazing gifts which i totally loved - i'm addicted even more to my card now - do you think these small gifts act as incentives to higher purchases on card ? i for one, do think so , what are you thoughts ?

Sure thing I do. I normally redeem the points for movie tickets. They are the most worth it in the whole catalog (I think). But if you look at it, they are still expensive - you need to spend quite a lot still to get them.

I just utilize the amazon awards system. for 2500 points you get 25 amazon dollars. I buy anything with their credit card I get 1 point per dollar spent.
If I buy something from www.amazon.com then I get 3 points per dollar spent.
So, I used that card for every purchase practically - then come home and do a bank transfer for the amount I just spent, on the online payment form. This way I do not incur interest fees plus I get to look forward to that $25 reward. It takes some time to accumulate, but in the long run it is free money, and free is good.

I have airmiles but I've only used them once so far (for tickets to a local summer amusement). What I do have, though, is a card for a local department store -- NOT a credit card, just a points card. If you use their credit card with it, you get 50% more points, but I don't do so. Anyway, when my kids were small, I used to save my points and buy them outdoor toys -- like those Little Tykes houses and slides and such. They were large toys that would have cost me over $100 to buy at retail and I was collecting the points buying things I needed anyway (everything from toilet paper to toothpaste to kids' shoes and more). I don't shop at that store as much now as I used to but I still have some points... I should visit their website and see if I could use them on something for me this time around LOL

I used too. It was a waste of time. One had to get a certain amount of points, say 10,000, before they could redeem them. The trouble is, after three years, if your points were not redeemed, they were cancelled.
I couldn't get the required mimium in three years, so I tore the card up.

Acturally, we have not used Credit cards for over 10 years now. Credit cards are bad. They make it too easy to get into debt that is near impossible to get out of. When we did use credit cards, they did not offer points or rewards for purchases.

Yes, I love those reward points. I usually redeem for gift certificates. Yes, I do think these small gifts could make you spend more on your credit card. I know my boyfriend is addicted to it, coz he uses his credit card even on small purchases and his so in debt right now.
