Electrical bills - how to cut down?

Received our electrical bill recently. It was quite high! And based on actual reading. Cham. Just wondering, if you're comfortable with sharing, what range does your electrical bill (total) fall under? Also indicate how many people there are in your household. 1. 0-$30 2. $30-$60 3. $60-$90 4. $90-$120 Any tips on reducing electrical bills will be appreciated too! My electrical bill for last month was in range 3, and there were only 2 of us staying there, and part of the month we were overseas! so it's a bit worrying. As background, we don't use aircon every night. Maybe 3 nights a month. And the only things that are kept running throughout were the fridge and the piano heater. We did cool our hall twice that month. Could that be the reason?

four persons living in a 3-rm flat our bills are constantly in the $150 range coz we wash clothes using washer and dryer for an average of three times a week using a 350l refrigerator and instant water heater boils water using cordless kettle for average 4 times a day hopefully it won't increase too much when we shift in the EA

It will definitely be a little more, assuming that your consumption remains the same. This is because you no longer enjoy the same subsidies you do when living in a 3 room flat.

actually this $150 is before the subsidy what i'm worried is that the bigger the unit is, the more electricity will be consumed coz there'll be more lights for sure and we'll need to switch on more lights to go from pt A to pt B that's why thinking of switching to gas heater

2 adult. So far is around $80 to $100. Dun use instant thermol flask. Iron cloth only once in a week. Off the instant heater after bathing, dun use storage tank. dun keep too many junk in the fridge maintain your aircon well. when buying electrrical applicance, check the power consumption which most of the ppl dun even pay notice to it.. FYI .. our 37" LCD TV only consume 75Watt.

Errr ... for the last 5 years. We had been paying the bill ourself, study .. on our own bill. So we used it paying on our own already.

wah that means it's really average to spend that amount. Cos you take notice of power consumption on appliances and still in range 3... guess we just have to get used to it. sometimes before getting married u just don't fully appreciate the bills that parents have been paying. now the full impact is there.

My electric bill falls in range 2, for two of us. I try very hard to keep it low...both for the sake of my wallet and becuase it's important to be environmetally. Here are some of the things I do... --I replaced by lightbulbs with lower energy bulbs. These bulbs are a little more expensive, but they last longer and have a few dollars difference in my bill. --Don't leave lights on, also don't turn them on unnecessarily. We use natural light as long as we can. --Burn candles instead of having a light on. If we just need a little light, we use candles. Added bonus, they also make the room smell nice. --Check you appliances, maybe you can upgrade to a more energy efficient model. --get insulated curtians to help keep the sun out so it dosen't heat up the room too much. --unplug things you aren't using. Even if something isn't on, it still draws a little bit of current. Hope this helps you a bit. I be others also have good suggestions. Good luck!

huh? even when the applicance is not on but plugged into the wall, it still draws current? wow... this is new to me. Will go back and see what is plugged in and not in use :p

yup, ahgong it draws electical current. recently there was a TV prog on this. apparently if your TV is always on standby, it also uses electricity. guess it's a trade off between convenience, and saving. switching off TV completely each time can be troublesome.
