A Freecycle Garden

For 3 years now I keep saying that I want to actually DO something with my yard but I never do. I live in a rental and it doesn't make sense for me to plan something big and beautiful when I probably won't be here in a few years to enjoy it at it's peak, and would be my own money for something I'd only get to benefit from for a short time.
I was on my local freecycle group the other day and I thought, why not ask for things on freecycle? I put out an inquiry looking for free seeds, bulbs or perennials that someone was splitting and got a TON of replies back.
It turns out, there are a ton of gardening fans on freecycle and they were more than generous. Today I came home with 6 bags, 2 flats and a box full of perennials from one very generous lady.. it was so much I actually had to dig another flower bed! :)
I just thought I'd throw that out there in case someone else was interested in gardening or wanting to try their hand at it for nothing. :)

I like going to look on freecycle. I posted clothes once on there but no one came to pick them up. There are a lot of nice people in this world and the more people that know about freecycle the better because the more stuff that will get posted and people can exchange. Have you ever tried http://daytona.craigslist.org/ they have this for different cities and I think it is also neat. Just go under the free section.

craigslist hasn't really worked for me, although I did get my roommate's kitten on there.

Last year I got lots of strawberry plants, some raspberry plants, a few rose bushes, and several other flowers from freecycle. There were also many other things available, but the others were either taken or a little too far for me to drive since I live in a rural area and have a long ways to drive between towns here. I think that freecycle gardening is a great idea.

Just a quick update on my Freecycle garden… My plants are doing great. The deer and rabbits got into my strawberry plants and dug some of them up, but the rest are blooming nicely so I am bound to get quite a few berries this year. I am not sure I will get anything from the raspberries, but that is ok, it might take another year or so. All of the plants look healthy, so that is all I can really ask.
Thanks for the best response.

The lupins were the only thing that took the transplant badly. The Poppies looked a little worse for wear the first day, but they're doing great since, as is everything else.

That sounds like a great idea. I hope you'll take pictures of your garden to share with us when it's all grown up. I don't know if there is anything like freecycle around here, but I think I'll look it up. It's so nice to share something like that.
