Does your diet affect you?

May 14, 2007 3:18am CST
I have found that what I eat greatly affects how I feel. I find that if I don't eat enough or I eat the wrong foods I can get very moody. This is because my blood sugar gets low. I have started a website about it to help other people with the same problems. I would appreciate any feedback or comments on the site. Thanks http://www.bowbridgepublishing.com/lowbloodsugar/

I think diet greatly affects how we feel. That is why there is a saying, 'we are what we eat'. Our energy level is greatly affected by what we eat. That is why some vegans says that they feel tired rather easily than those who are meat eaters.

It is interesting what you say about vegans being tired. I found that I had more energy when I gave up meat in my diet than I did before.

I find it very unlikely that people who make a serious commitment to the vegan diet would have a lack of energy. It is ust a case of making sure you get enough carbs, proteins and fats as well as fruit and veg which I dono't find difficult at all.

Really? well, I can't really say that with conviction since I am not a vegan. I just read it here in the discussions of other members in mylot who are vegans.

I'm prone to low blood sugar and low blood pressure, so eating regularly helps me stay even throughout the day. Breakfast is my biggest challenge, because I just can't get myself to squeeze much down at 7am. I bring something with me to work instead and eat a little later, better than waiting for lunch. Several snacks each day too. I'm vegetarian and focus on eating as many varied veggies each day, and I definitely get a lot of fiber and protein too. I want to be healthy, and as I grow older I know my diet will help me to maintain my ideal body weight. Because I'm quite active as well, I eat with exersice in mind to make sure my body can work out at its best.

Breakfast is very important when you have low blood sugar but I know what you mean about it being a struggle to eat it. I tend to eat some cereal while I'm preparing my daughters lunch so I don't have to think too much about what I'm doing.

Last month I had a medical check and the dr told me that my sugar level is not good. Had to do another blood test and I will be visiting the Dr for the report tomorrow. In view of my medical condition I find the site quite useful. If more info on types of fruits that we can take or should be avoided be furnished it will be wonderful. Cheers

thanks for your comment and I'm pleased that you find the site useful. I will certainly be adding to the list of foods that should be avoided now that you have mentioned it will help you. In the meantime in answer to your question about fruit I would say that all fruits should be eaten as part of a meal which also includes some complex carbohydrates to balance out the sugar. The best way to work out what foods are higher in sugar is to look at their GI value. Watermelon is one of the worst fruits, followed by sultanas and raisins, pineapple, apricots and banana. Good fruits are cherries, grapefruit, dried apricots, apples and pears. Other fruits mainly lay somewhere in between. I hope that helps a bit.

I am a diabetic so I watch the food that I eat. I know which foods that will raise or help lower my sugar levels. if my blood sugar is too low I am dizzy and light headed. If my blood sugar is too high I have mood swings. Its like I don't have patience for any thing.

I definately notice a correlation between my moods and how I feel overall and the things I eat. Whenever I eat junk or greasy food I feel bad all over. Headaches, gross in my stomach, tired, irritable, etc. But when I eat fresh fruits and vegetables I feel better all around.

In our local language Oriya, there is a saying, "Jemiti anna, semiti mana." That means like our food, our mind is such. We can not ignore the various effects of our food on our mind and mood. For a good, strong and stable mind, we must select and plan our diet accordingly, that corelating with geography of the place, season and also Nature. Any way, we must always develop a good food culture to fight against many physiological as well as mental problems for all age group and all times. Thanks.

I think you're right. I am anemic and so I really have to eat food with high iron and protein in it plus taking vitamins and supplements. If I don't do this let's say a week, I get weaker and lose focus plus if I happen to miss taking enough rest I could faint!

I don't really feel this way, having been a vegetarian all my life I have had a very good diet and I make sure I eat a lot of foods that contain slow-release energy, like porridge. I looked at your website.. It is really good! The design is simple yet effective, the navigation is easy and the recipes look really cool! Well done you! x

Of course what you eat is what you become .your body and mind is made up of from the elements what you take .it does affect our mood.the quantity of food also affects our mood. if you take lot food suddenly you feel sleepy. tea and coffee are stimulants they will energise you for sometime ,but then as an aftereffect you will feel lethargy also. if you eat veg and fruits you will normally willbe a calm person.most of the time happy.
