Reading several books at once

Does anyone else do this? I am generally never reading less than 3 or 4 books at any one time. It seems a lot of people think it's weird, but I've always done that...I have to be working on reading several at once. so how many of you out there are multiple readers or do you just stick to one book at a time???

My local library used to allow borrowers to take out 10 books. But now they allow up to 20 books. This means I can visit five different libraries within a month. Then the books are all due back on separate dates. I have to be careful to remember to take each book back on time. Otherwise I will have to pay a fine for keeping them over due. I read one fiction book at a time. If it is a great story I read it incredibly quickly. I can read it in just two days or less if it is very exciting. If I love the book very much I buy a copy of it at a book shop to keep. I read many non-fiction books at the same time. I like to dip in and out of the different topics detailed.

I read a few books at the same time because by reading one I might not always be in the mood to read that kind of book. I usually read one book that makes me think and then another lighter one at the same time. This way if I don't feel like reading something too heavy, I have another option open to myself. I also take breaks from my larger books to read comics or graphic novels. I also don't think this is a strange pattern. Some people just have difference preferences and ways of reading. I must admit though, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who does this.

i agree. I usually read something light along with something else...It really is nice to know a lot of other people do this as well.

I always have at least 4 books going at once. I keep them all over the house, in different bags, the car, my office, my mom's, etc. I always have a book with me. And it works out ok. It's like watching a tv series...stay tuned next week. Yah know?

I'm the same way... At one time I was reading 20 books at once and nobody could understand how I kept track of all the plots

I never have much luck reading two books at the same time. I tend to lose the subtlety and the nuance of one book when I start reading another one at the same time.

I'm doing it all the time. I'm very fond of non-fiction, biographies etc. but sometimes I'm just too tired to read something serious and then I'm enjoying a mystery, just to relax a bit.

I do this also. I have a harry Potter book started. I haven't finshed the Dawn Treader yet and I have another book I started reading also. I don't know why I do that either. i thought it was just me that did this.

I do a combination of books and magazines. I am currently reading 2 books and 3 magazines. They are all places in different places around the house...bedroom, bathroom, living room, etc. So, depending on where I am, that's what I will read then! It works for me. I know some people find that hard to keep up with but I like the variety and the convenience of having something to read no matter where I am.

I can only read one book at a time, I will get confused if I read more than one. And once I finish a book I have to wait a few days to start another one or I will get the story-lines confused in my mind =) I am a one book person =)

I've done it before, and often had to read a book for my studies and been reading a book for pleasure too, but it can be a bit confusing uness the subject matter of the two books is completely different!

I'm a book reviewer, so I have a to be read pile that's toppling over on my desk in addition to the pile I've started on my night stand. I have two that I'm really concentrating on and the rest are just sort of flitting around in my mind. It gets choatic at times, so I have to keep a journal in order to stay organized about what I'm reading and how it's going.
