When do you remove the bumpers from the cribs?

I have never liked using bumpers and never had with any of my children until about 8-10 weeks ago, my son started CONSTANTLY getting his legs stuck in between the crib slats even though they are within the safety parameters. So I bought a set of "breathable bumpers" basically mesh bumpers that wouldnt smother him but would keep his legs safely inside. But now he's 6 months and more mobile. When do I remove them?

Actually there have been various statements issued by health groups that state bumper stickers are unsafe. The American Academy of Pediatrics calls them a suffocation hazard. "Some major children's safety organizations have recently suggested that parents and child care providers should remove crib bumper pads from baby cribs." The full article can be read at http://babyproducts.about.com/od/recallsandsafety/a/bumpersafety.htm I believe I removed mine around 6 or six months.

I only used bumpers in my son's crib for a few weeks, when we first moved him into the crib from the bassinet. It seemed to help him feel more secure then. By 6 months, he was pulling up on stuff so we removed them, so he couldn't climb on top of them. The week before we moved them, we noticed that he was pulling one end down onto his mattress and using it for a pillow. It was really cute.

actually it's recommended that you don't use them at all. i never did with my daughter. my doctor and the public health nurses said that they were hazzardous and not to put them on at all.

I never used the bumpers either. I have heard that as soon as he starts pulling himself up in the crib you should remove them. So he cant stand on them and flip out. He is keeping you busy isnt he?
