Do you care what your Doctor is wearing?

I went to a walk in clinic not long ago and the Doctor on duty was wearing his street clothes. I was a little put off by this and I don't know why. He was efficient and did his job, why should it matter if he has a white coat on or not. Does it bother you what your Doctor is wearing?

I guess some people doesnt like to wear the white coat or they might have forgotten to wear it. For me, wearing it is a respect for yourself and for the name you have as a doctor. Most of the doctors I met wear the white coat with pride and thats what should other doctors must do. The white coat is kinda like their trademark in their profession.

The white coat is kind of like the trademark but I guess any colour would do.

To be honest, I'd rather see a doctor in their off duty clothes. Always seeing a doctor so "made up" in their white clothes and whatnot, it often intimidates me and makes the office visit seem so impersonal. I think I'd prefer seeing them dressed like me, I could probably talk to my doctor more openly that way.

I suppose the white coat is a little intimidating now that I think about it.

I don't mind if doctors wear casual clothes, but I do think that they should be clean (obviously)and they should be changed into after they arrive at the surgery to minimise contamination risks, as I did when I was a dental nurse. although to be fair, doctors don't often perform procedures needing a very high level of cleanliness during their working day. most diagnosis is through discussion and external monitoring, such as blood pressure, listening to the heart and lungs etc. they are usually referred to a nurse for tests requiring more invasive procedures, like blood tests, or more.
