An elementary school in Tennessee do a fake attack on students as a drill to prepare them, should the real thing happen. This is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Parents of the children are outraged and if my child went to that school, I would be fit to be tied. You do not prepare for a trauma by traumatizing. These children may suffer from this for the reat of their lives. An idiot could have told them that this is the best way to get Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Why did they not get the parents permission before going this far or at least consult someone with sense. Now, I am assuming that the school board will pick up the tab for therapy and the lawsiuts and whatever other damages were incurred during this brilliant idea.

Yea thats a rediculous idea! We had something kind of simular to it here where i live ((anyone who lives in UK may remember this)) a teacher tied two students to their chairs to "prepare" them for her kind of punishments is what she said! People who live in UK may remember this if they watched London Tonight. So yes i agree with what you said it is an awful thing to do and i think that a person who does anything like this should be in serious trouble and i hope they get locked up for life!!!!

I have never heard of this. I don't agree with it. Especially at the elementary level. I wouldn't bet on the school board picking up any tabs. In a way, the schools are between a rock and a hard place. They may be trying to prepare the kids for the worse by at least taking some action, even though it isn't the most brilliant; while at the same time, if something does happen at the school, parents will be outraged that the schools did nothing in advance.

I would be outraged if someone chose to traumatize my kid, without my permission. These children were so afraid that they were pleading for their lives. Someone is going to pay dearly for this one.

Some teachers has strange methods and logic of teaching. Was it approved by the director of the school? And of course, for some things it`s neccessary to ask parents`permission. If this is a way of therapy, does any psychologist or social worker take part in theese "lessons" too? I am schocked:-(

There have been so many reports of stupidity from teachers that I've lost what little respect I had for the profession. I just hope the people involved are permanently barred from teaching.

You are right about this, the teachers have become very unprofessional. I did a post a while ago titled "Who Is Really Teaching Our Children." I was very surprised that I did not get one response to it. It is really frightening what these teachers are doing to our children.

This is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard of. Should we prepare kids for a house fire by setting fire to their homes while they sleep?? I think it is horrible enough that kids have to worry about this without having to act it out in a make believe drill. If anything, they should sit the kids down and talk to them about how to handle the situation should it arise just as they used to do with tornado drills and such in school (we were all supposed to line up and go to a certain spot). LIVE IN PEACE

I can't believe that a school would do this and never tell the parents about it. Did they tell the students about it being a mock thing or not? I so understand why they done it as the violence in the schools continues to get worse. However, I think that they might have handled it in a different matter. However, the parents are complaining now but if the school were attacked and one child said I made it out because we were trained on what to do, then they would be thanking the school for it. Precautions never hurt anything!! I can't say that I agree with the way it was done but I also think that the kids need to practice what they should do and it needs to feel real to them.

Then the school could have informed the parents and allowed the parents to teach somethings for the child. Then school cold have had a couple of weeks of practice with the children and possibly invite parents to participate or observe. After two weeks an active drill...I think this school needs to be sued and HARD!!!! This is the same as a fire drill..You want the children to be thinking-using their thought processes not being in a state of absolute panic, so that if it did come down they would know how to think and survive. GAWD!! The school F@$%ed this up. It could have been a great learning tool for the children. But the UNIONIZED school system-who think they are better at raising children than the parents-decided to traumatize the kids....smart people at that school....

this is the wierdest thing i have ever heard... you are right... you do not prepare people for the trauma by traumatising them... it is absurd... and also, it will definitely leave a scar on these children for the rest of their lives like what you say... no wonder many parents are home schooling their children nowadays.. i don't know what happen with the education system nowadays... i hope the teacher gets the proper punishment and the school apologise to the children and the parents propery...

I have heard about a fake fire or tornado drill for preparing them for that, but this is way extreme. I think I would of been upset as a parent. I don't think they did it in the right matter. They should of talked with parents first and even gave the kids a heads up, to warn them that they would be doing a test drill and explain to them about what to do in a case of an attack. It could of been done in a different matter. Yes schools should be prepared just in case an attack was to happen and drills should be done, but both parents and students should know and be educated about school attacks first.

That entire school faculty and administration should be up on charges for child abuse. If any of those so-called "teachers" or administrators heard that some parents pulled this kind of trash on their kids, you could bet they would have the parents up on charges. "Educators" who didn't protest this decision and plan have no credibility!

The schools are getting so stupid with some of the things they do it isn't even funny these days. I think it is time to demand some mass firings, and try for smarter and more intelligent teachers in our schools. If it isn't some sort of child abuse such as putting tape on their mouths, or clothes-pinning their lips, it is showing 12 year olds "R" rated movies. Now the schools are turning to terrorizing the kids in the name of preparedness. The lawsuits show fly and thickly. I am a zero tolerance kind of guy, and have zero tolerance for stupidity in all of it's many forms. This has got to be close to the ultimate in stupidity when it comes to teaching children. Let mass lawsuits and firings begins. Those teachers should also be charged with child abuse for this stupid stunt.

I heard about this on the news. This is crazy. That person is nuts for playing such a stupid game or whatever. With all the school shooting this is no game to play on the kids and parents. I would be fit to be tied also.

First of all I would like to speak out that the US's mindset is not at all healthy. It has become a paranoic nation. Especially the Bush Sr. and Jr. governments have made a hype of terrorism around the world. Terrorism in my opinion is the creation of the US's insecurities and the addiction to consumerism and the neverending need for oil. All the so called terrorist nations and the dictatorial regimes were the creation of the western government stooges. When they (the dictators) grew powerful and threatened the masters it could not control, it started fighting back like a brute bully. The need of the hour is a sane, humane leadership, like a father, who can contribute to the development of the family, and its neighbors. The very fact the drill in the elementary school in Tennessee shows that the government is instilling this paranoic psyche in the young minds. Ultimately it leads to more trouble in the world. Teachers and parents, social workers and responsible citizens should give voice to this concern. Capitalism is good if it serves the general good of mankind. But this agressive marketing of terror in young minds is too bad. Naturally people and cultures react to such negative marketing. Hope the leaders, administrators and philosophers understand this and make this earth a place to live happily.

I think it was wrong for these teachers to do this fake attack. They should have alerted the parents and the principal of their plans so that the kids would not panic or be frightened so bad. It is okay to discuss such a plan with students, parents and faculty as it is good to make everyone aware but the way they did it and without letting the parents know is wrong and sick. I am sure there will be some lawsuits or kids going to different schools. I feel bad for the children and their parents. These teachers are very irresponsible.

It was SO STUPID. They should have gone through drills first THEN an actual so the kids would be prepared. The parents should have been notified so they could go over it with their children. When we had a FIRE DRILL in elementary school we practiced first. I think the parents need to do some major SCHOOL BOARD ACTIVITIES and teacher activities. Those involved should be either fired or SEVERLY REPRIMANDED. Yea, lawsuits are in order. GADS!!! HOW STUPID!!!

I did not hear about this one. Oh I would have had that teacher fired or something if I could. They could have been other ways to teach the children how to act in case of a attack. That was very uncalled for. Those children will have to live with this the rest of their lives. I pray God will give those children peace and comfort them and protect them always.

the worst of it is the only punishment these "adulta" got was the assistant principal and one of the teachers are suspended for the rest of the school year (2 weeks) without pay!! the story the teachers are telling is that the kids knew there was going to be a prank on the school trip they were on!! If a child did that to the teachers, I bet there would be severe consequences!!

I seem not to understand, what kind of drill have the childrren been through? i think the head of the school should have a talk with and the parents and also advice the teachers on the consequence of their action.
