High blood pressure can be due to circumstances and one reading does not indicate that one should be medicated for this condtion..but if you ever go to the doctor repeatedly and your pressure falls constantly on the high side, would you just accept the medications prescribed by your doctor or are you a negotiator that would suggest to him that a different diet and exercise program would be something you would try first before taking a medicine to treat it? If you have ever been diagnosed with HBP, have you followed your treatment plan? Have you taken the medicine? Do you take you BP at home to make sure it is remaining at a safe level? Do you take this seriously? It is called the silent killer and sometimes has no outward symptoms. Would you only worry if you felt sick or would you adhere to a strict program to naturally lower the numbers? How would/did you react when told about HBP..and do you consider it a serious threat to your life?

I don't have high blood pressure myself but my husband does, and he is now on medication for it. He sees the doctor regulary, and has been told to stay away from anything that contains caffiene. We take it very seriously, and my husband does follow his doctor'a advice.

Actually, I have low blood pressure; on average, 100 over 70. My pulse rate is usually around 55 (meaning my heart beats 55 times per minute -- less than once per second). My father has high blood pressure, hence we have one of those blood pressure measuring machines at home, and I check mine randomly.
One way to keep blood pressure low is to drink lots of tea. It seems contrary, since caffeine increases blood pressure temporarily. However, an average of four cups of tea a day has been proven to enlarge your arteries, enabling your blood to carry more oxygen, while slowing down your heart so that it delivers blood more efficiently with less pumps. I drink tea nonstop! Of course, I also exercise and avoid fast food.
I think high blood pressure is a serious problem. It's connected with obesity, smoking, heart disease, and all the other main killers in the US, and probably the world as well.

It is serious and can be serious but also it can be treated. My mum has it and she is on medication which she has to be on for the rest of her life. When she gets stressed through life issues it is dangerous for her because she gets higher blood pressure and it has to be monitored by her doctor.

I have high blood pressure but have been advised not to take medication because im too young and having to go on things like statins and beaterblockers at 16 is too young so they are trying to get my pressure down through my diet and my other things before they give me medication!

I do not have high blood pressure. If I did, I would head my Dr.'s advice and medication. Changing a diet and exercising regularly is in the best interest as well, as that is good if you have blood pressure problems or not. I'm also an avid aromatherapy user, so I would mix the traditional medicine with the natural remedies from home.
