Even if they give to Charity, even if they have worked hard for their money? I'm looking at James 1 9-11 I think it is okay for a christian to be rich! It just seems that the Bible has certain parts in it that are very judgemental against people who happen to have money. What is wrong with having money? I can see a person who is ruled by an addiction to making more and more money and hoarding it for himself, but what is wrong with going to school and working hard to get a good job so that you can have nice things and travel and of course give more to charity. Does anyone else think this is wrong? What do you think it is meant in the bible about rich people? Are only the poor good?

It is God's will for His people to live abundantly. There is nothing wrong with being rich as long as we do not become slaves to money. We have to work to be able to provide for our basic needs as well as our family's. We are also supposed to support the church so it is necessary for Christians to make money to be able to do so. I believe that what the Scriptures is trying to impart is that God provides and we should not put money first in our lives. Instead, it should be used as a tool to glorify Him.

yes that's what I was getting out of it. That we can be RICH but not to put money first above God and goodness and spirituality and other people.

In 1 Timothy 3:10 says that "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil." It is the love for money that is wrong not of having it. Remember Job, who was considered by the Bible as the wealthiest on his time? When Jesus Christ was on earth as a carpenter, He was not poor because carpentry was one of the highest paid job on that time. You even noticed that Judas Iscariot (one of the apostles) was 'elected' as treasurer of their group-- so that means they have funds to support their ministry. Even Peter, James and John were wealthy fishermen then. I knew a church-mate who's husband is a full-time missionary while she is unemployed. But they all have the luxuries of a rich family-- their 3 kids are schooling at the finest schools here, they have cars, latest tech gadgets, and they're always open to help the needy. God was so pleased with this couple that they blessed them abundantly!

Being rich is not a sin. But if you are rich you should not forget God and his words. We should not become enslaved to greed for money. When somebody approach you for help, should not deny it. Though physically rich, we should be poor in our soul. We should not feel proud of our wealth, instead we should be proud of the Father in heaven who provided us the wealth. Thank you.

God is a good God. He is also a wealthy GOD. Christians are meant to be wealthy. That is God's will. How are you going to help others if you cannot help yourself? The Christians in the Bible were not poor. The more they served God the more God gave them. That's why it is in the Bible to give 10% tithe. That all came from the traditional way. The poor man's mentality. Just because that's what they are acustom to, they think it is right. You are a child of God. God promises to give you what you desire if you are align with Him. Just check out the people that you know that really loves God. They are never without. Abundant living is from God. It's good to go to school and work hard to get a good job. But that is another traditional thing. I'm am not telling you not to go to school. Get your degree. But don't get stuck with a 9-5 job. Be in a business for yourself. It doesn't matter how long you stay in school, but they'll never teach you how money works, how you can retire early, how you can make passive income, have the money working for you instead of you working for the money, so you could enjoy the nice things and the vacations and don't have to think about going back to work on Mondays. That is also God's will. You can spend more of your time doing what God calls you to do. You will never know your calling till you stop and listen to God. Remember, whatever is not good is not of God and poor is not Good. Gpd Bless You.

Rich people are definately Christian. They give to charity. They help their neighbour - whoever is in need. In the early Christian community, the first Christians were not always rich. In fact, they had suffer from the hostility of the rich and the powerful. This was the era of persecutions. Only after Emperor Constantaine, Christainity began to be stable as financially stable people. Letter to St. James was written before this era. It's out cry is against the people who had wealth, wouldn't share a bit, for their neighbours in need. The above quoted verses are relevant even today.
