what's the difference between french bread and baguettes?

since i am living in the philippines, i really dont have much knowledge about the bread of the french. however, there are "French bread" being sold in the bakeries. it is shaped like a big long stick. i keep hearing the word "baguettes" in foreign movies and they look a lot like chopped french bread. are they the same? can anyone enlighten me with this?:)

Baguette is simply how they call the French bread in France :), normal bread would be "pain", but it'd be weird to combine French and bread in France though :P.
