how to get rid of lizards in my house ?

Me & my wife hate lizard droppings, can anyone tell us how to make my house lizard free. Is house lizard known to carry diseases?

I am not a lizard expert..but my son had a pet lizard and I do know that you can get salmonella from them. A friend of mine kept cats to keep her yard and pool area lizard free...I would think that this should work in the house as well.

My wife veto the idea about keeping a cat (or two, i'm a cat lover), furthermore cats will break your vase etc if they start attacking lizards. Thanks for the suggestion.
