Slow Freecycle Moderators?

Do you find the moderators on your local freecycle group are slow to approve messages? I posted a bunch of offers this afternoon but I haven't seen anything new come through the list for almost 2 hours and it's been over 3 since I sent mine for approval. The group used to be hopping at all hours of the day and night. The front page says 200-250 posts come through a day but now it's more like 50-100, with weekends a bit more. It kind of drives me nuts, the local group owner wants you to be with the group for a year + before she'll set you to unmoderated or let you have a chance to try out for moderator but it makes for slow going in the meantime. Are your freecycle mods as slow as mine?

Well every freecycle group is different. I am a owner/moderator of the freecycle group where I live. So I am going to try to answer your discussion from a moderators point of view. 1. Slow to approve messages? Let me ask you this. Do you know how many moderators your group has? If the group you belong to is like mine then I could see how it would take awhile for the messages to be approved. I am the one and only owner/moderator in my group. I don't have any help in approving messages or memberships. So it does take awhile for messages to be approved on my group because I do have other things in my own personal life that come first. All owners and moderators are volunteers. We do not get paid for what we do and we all have personal lives that we must attend to. But I do try to check my email at least 3 times a day to approve anything that needs to be approved. If the group you belong to has more than one moderator. Then you may want to email them and ask them why it is takeing so long. 2. Moderated until you have been there a year? I am not sure if this is allowed. There are certain guidelines that the individual groups have to abide by. But then everything else is up to the individual groups. I do know that my own group, you only have to post one correct offer and taken or wanted and recieved before being taken of moderation. If you really feel this is not right then try contacting freecycle.org and addressing the issue with them. I think a year on moderation is a little extreme. Well I am not sure if I was able to help you understand the moderator side of things, but I hope I have. Best of luck!

Yes, I do. It seems they only approve messages in the early morning hours. So if you are not up in the monrings you miss out. If you post later you have to wait til morning for others to see your posts. I think having to be with the for a year to be unmoderated is a little to long in my opinion. I think in a couple of months if people have no complaints about that person. That they should be unmoderated.
