Is it just me? Is the timeline messed up?

First off i just want to say i love Days of Our Lives my mom watched it faithfully when i was growing up and i saw it everytime i missed school and threw the summer. I am now 27 years old and watch it daily. This id my delema... I seemed to have a memory of shawn brady being about 9 years old about the time i was around 12 or 13, He was blind as a child and had a miracle surgery Right? Then after that he just wasnt there a whole lot and life all went on and Marlana and John had Belle and somewhere in there Phillip was born, then Shawn comes back and he is the same age as every one except Brady who is older and i thought he should be younger then him. Am I dilerious or is the ages of the Salems next generaltion all messed up? I have been wondering this for a while!!!!!

What we have here is a case of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome, which sadly, affects many daytime television children. I love your question, by the way! I enjoy this topic very much! Aside from the younger generation in Salem, I think the funniest one is from the young generation of the '80s. In all actuality, Hope should be 33 years old. She was born on the show in 1974, and was aged in 1980 when she was supposed to be only 6 years old, she became a teenager. I don't know if she was the first one to have been aged on Days (my guess is no), but she is the first one that I know of. Soap Operas do have a habit of doing this to bring fresh storyline. So, instead of brining on new characters who we have no prior knowledge of, we are treated to super-aging for the ones who are the children of already known and loved characters. I suppose it is so we can relate to them better than someone new. Belle, Shawn, Brady, and Phillip were aged in 1999 to make some really great storylines. Brady was actually around 3 or 4 years younger than Shawn, yet when he was reintroduced, he magically became 3 or so years OLDER. This difference was most assuredly in place so that Belle and Shawn would be "closer" in age to make for better storyline. Carrie, Sami, and Eric (who wasn't present on the show, but since he and Sami are twins, it was a given), were aged around 1992 or so. Of course, I'm sure you remember that they had done this to make the storyline of Belle's birth more interesting, having Sami to kidnap her, and turn into a troubled teen. It also made way for better storyline with Kate and Lucas entering the show. Then, of course, they had to bring up another set of the kids and age them to have more interesting storylines, hence Abbie and Chelsea. Max was aged also, but not quite as much. I'm sure we'll be seeing Will aged more soon, though that would be hard to explain. I mean, we all know that Sami was a teen mom when Will was born, but when or if they age him further, that will make Sami have to be in her 40's or late 30's at the very least. And if Will gets aged, he will have to have someone to be "buddies" with. Another character will most likely get aged too, since they seem to age the kids in twos or more. Funny enough, Will and Phillip are supposed to be the same age, so Will is actually closer to what his real on show age is supposed to be than some of the others. I predict that in about 5 years or so, we will see Theo, Ciara, Claire, and possibly Phillip and Mimi's yet unborn baby will be aged to be teenagers, and they will all magically become the same age, carrying on the Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome concept.

I did not know that about hope, but i was only just born when all that would have happened. But you do have very good points. and they did make for some really great story lines through the years. my favorite out of them all would be the one with brady and chloe it was a wonderful romance. thank you for your responce it has been very enlightning and whats better is to know that ia m not the only one who has noticed this. Around here when i talk to my freinds about it they just dot know or get it cause they never watched it before they became adults.

Oh, my sons wathed Days with me because I would tape it during the day and watch it at night. They knew the whole story line all the time. About a year ago my son (now 23) saw me wathing it and said "Hey, who's that?" and when I told him it was Shawn and Belle he was like "They're supposed to be YOUNGER than me!"

I agree. Brady and Chloe were definitely my favorite Days couple followed closely by Pete and Melissa (back in the '80's). I have watched Days since I can remember. My aunt loved Days and my mama loved Another World, so I still have snippets of memory of me in my playpen watching it. I was a HUGE fan of the Hope and Bo storyline in the 80's and I still have little pieces of paper where my cousin and I played Days of Our Lives and wrote our own little plot changes. lol We had to be all of 5 or 6 years old at the time! I carry on the tradition with my own daughter, and she was a bit confused when Abby had rapidly aged to a teen. I explained how they do that on the soaps and she readily accepted it. :)

Like everyone else said - it happens ALL the time. My all-time favorite though, was with Belle. John and Marlena had just come back from their honeymoon I think and Belle went from 3 to 12 in a matter of weeks. Marlena's first response to Belle was "My how you've grown!" I'll never forget that!!! Just like now, with the new Stephanie... Everyone comments on how she's "changed" so much!!

I love it when they make those tongue-in-cheek comments and refer to things that have changed from what they were, or when they directly, and quite humorously refer to something that is real or currently happening. It wasn't done on Days, but on Passions. Passions fans are all aware by now that Passions is being taken off of NBC this summer. The reason for it, is so that they can make room to lengthen The Today Show by another 1/2 hour to 1 hour (I can't remember which it is now). On Passions a few weeks back, there was an episode where they were interupting programming for breaking news (on the show, not in real time). The voice on the tv said, "We now interrupt the reguarly scheduled 6 HOURS of the Today Show to bring you this news bulletin" (I am paraphrasing, but 6 hours is what they said). I busted a gut, simply because they addressed, as they often do, things that are in your face, instead of ignoring it and acting like it hasn't happened. Making fun of NBC's making the Today Show's changes and the removal of their own program was quite clever. :D

I must of missed that episode of Passions. I am very dissapointed that they are talking it off just to be able to lenthen the Today show that already takes up most of the programing anyway. Yes those little quirks that you can catch are quite funny. I personnaly done like the new Stephanie as compared to the old i think they changed her too much.

You are right it is all messed up. This happens on all the soaps though. They advance their ages so they can give them good storylines. Even when Bo and Billi had Chelsea (aka Georgia) she should only be around 10 or so but now she is 20. That's soaps for you.
