Sand Castle Promises

Sand castle in Boracay - There are lots of sand castles in Boracay and the one in this picture is just one of them. People repair or rebuild them everyday.

There is a song here in my country that compares sand castles to unfulfilled promises perhaps between lovers. But sand castles reminds me particularly of a politician's promise. Weak and cannot withstood the ravages of the winds and tide. The tide & wind being truth, genuine service & honesty. They are indeed its mortal enemies and when faced with those, it just crumbles into nothingness. We just had our national election yesterday and as usual, I had exercised my right to vote and with it comes another hope that this time whoever may be elected, had not made sand castle promises and will truly serve the people. To you what does sand castle represents? For me its promises that were not fulfilled.

There is a band here in the States called BR-549. They play Hillbilly Rock. They have a song called, "STROYBOOK ENDINGS." The main refrain is as follows, "Storybook endings and white picket fences, Castles and tales where the Prince finds the Princess aint real if you stop believing." This song line also tells a long story if you think about it also. Now I've got to put this CD in and listen. I have no response other than this. Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

This is a very nice response Grandpa Bob...and sad too. It tells me of disillusionment. Thanks for responding!

I'm ever the optimistic as I see the song as saying keep believing and things come to us.

i have already heard this song. so this is about story book endings. fairy tales are just fairy tales and they are never true. they become true in our minds only. for those who believe in fairy tales, they can be true. so storybook endings will hold truth only if believers in them remain.

we know that sand castles are never to be counted upon. it crumbles by the flick of a finger, by the lash of a wind, moreso it is gone forever as mere sands on the shore once the seawater reaches it. just like the promises the politicians give us at the time of their campaigns, they utter promises which is devoid of honesty and bare of sincerity. those promises they give can never be counted upon. they are given just so as to bag our votes, rather than give them to us as a light of hope.

Sad to say that I do agree with you as far as those politicians are concerned. Politics is business for them which only serves their own interest. Typical sand castles. Thanks for responding!
