So nowadays renting a house is very expensive in the Netherlands. Also because of the Euro things has gotten very expensive. I think also in other countries the prices of houses are increasing even in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia which used to be much cheaper. So how about your country?

In the UK, the housing market has gone crazy. Most people starting out can't afford to buy a house now. Renting is as expensive as buying in most cases. I was lucky that I bought a small house when I was young and made some money on that which meant I could afford to borrow enough to buy the one I have now. My brother would like to buy a house, but can't as the payments would cost 80% of his income.

The Irish housing market has gone through the roof, whether you are buying or renting. There isn't enough supply to meet demand, especially in the Dublin area, so house prices have gotten crazy. Becasue of a recent attempt to repeal Stamp Duty, the housing market has hit a bit of a slump and prospective buyers are hoping the market will cool a bit. It is hard to believe it can cary on inflating the way it has and if I was committed to a mortgage with a variable rate, in this market climate, I would be FREAKING OUT!
