laptop is better than a desktop pc only because it is portable. you can use it wherever you need. otherwise desktop pc has no problem.
when you will go to buy a laptop keep some things in you mind :
1) battery backup
2) weight
3) over heating problem
4) other configurations like processor , mother board , hdd etc.

yes,i just bought a brand new 'Acer' laptop.which is aspire 5050 series.i recommend acer if you are a budget conscious buyer because acer come with all features like wi-fi,dual layer dvd writer, duo core processor with 64 bit,and many more feature comparatively cheaper than any other brand.
my acer config is AMD turion 1.6GHz Duo core 64,1GB DDR2 RAM,ATI 1100 Gfx with PS2.0,Dual layer DVD writer,120GB HDD,wi-fi,card reader, bth, integrated WEB CAM. and the price difference compared to other brand is about 8-10000 INR!ie it cost 42000 INR.
although battery backup is only 2 hr because of AMD processor.and also it weighs 2KG
if you looking for performance gofor sony vaio!sony vaio is best performance laptop among all lap!but it cost above 55000

I have a laptop. It actually depends, if you always travel and you need a pc wherever you are. Then you may need a laptop. However, if you mostly stay at home, then table-top will be the best for you. I don't really know how to select the best kind of laptop, anyway I owned an ASUS laptop.

I have one, but I'm not very techie. They come in pretty much the same spec as table-top machines, so you would choose it the same way.
I think the only real difference is that it's more difficult to upgrade laptops because of all the components being packed in with no spare space. You may need to use the original manufacturer parts.
As I said, I'm not that technical, so I've never done anything like that. I bought the laptop because I lived in a small house and the desk my old machine was on took up too much space. My laptop and all of the wires etc pack away into one bag now.

I have a laptop, in my opinion they're better than desktops since you can use it as a desktop by just hooking everything up along with having the option to move it around when desired.

No I don't have a laptop but yes I'd love to accept one if somebody will dooate one for me LOL. For me desktops are sometimes better than laptop, sometimes its the other way around. In terms of portability laptop is better. In terms of upgradability desktops are better. In selecting laptops, we need to consider service centers for the unit. It must also have warranties and should bear a brand name with for us to easily look for spare parts whenever things go wrong. Brands like acer, apple, hp, ibm are most common names you can find in the market today. Upon choosing the best brand, one should consider the applications or the purpose of buying the item in order to specify the exact specifications of a laptop or desktop.
