I have an idea. Just feed the cats to the dogs and everything will work out just fine. Whiteheather should rate this a plus. Considering the source of the comment, It could have been a lot worse.

You know the only cat food we have bought our cat in the last 6 months that he could eat without getting sick is Meow mix. I wonder if that is why. So far so good.

You are lucky my best friend has 3 cats and felyt quite safe feeding hers food made by "Blue Buffalo Company" until she got this warning now they are saying it is in rice protein and they didn't know as it is rice protein is NOT on the label. I had never heard of this make of cat food.
Here's the FDA statment
It should be noted the "Blue" canned dog and cat food products were not formulated or labeled to contain rice protein concentrate, and that the manufacturer, American Nutrition, Inc. added the rice protein concentrate to these products without Blue Buffalo Company's knowledge or consent. For this reason, Blue Buffalo Company is concerned that it can not have any faith in the integrity, or the accuracy of the ingredient labels of any of its products manufactured by American Nutrition. Therefore Blue Buffalo is withdrawing all products manufactured by American Nutrition, including products that American Nutrition claims do not contain rice protein. The FDA investigation into the inclusion of the rice protein by American Nutrition in Blue Buffalo's products is ongoing.
Consumers who have any of the "Blue" can dog foods, "Blue Spa Select" can cat foods, or "Blue" dog treats that are being recalled should stop using the products immediately, and return any unused or partially used products to the retailer where they were purchased, for a full refund

That's why I have been making my own cat food. But, that may not be good enough. New information is showing that contaminated feed has been being fed to pig, chickens, and farm raised fish.
They know that pigs can eliminated the melamine through their kidneys; but, they don't know if chickens and fish can or not. At this rate, my cats may end up eating beef.

Tess,
I mainly use the recipe from this site:
http://www.catnutrition.org/recipes.html
You have to add supplements to provide all the necessary nutrition they need. Nature has designed cats to get ALL of their nutritional needs by eating their entire prey. Unless you are willing to feed then an entire bird, fish, mouse, etc; you need to add a few things.
Actualy vets have knnow about this type of diet for many years BUT vets also sell pet food through their offices. They only give out "homemade" cat food recipes to people whose cats are "allergic" to canned and dry food. (All cats should be lucky enough to be "allergic".)
Both of my cats are nice and healthy. Actually, they have fewer problems now than they did before I switched - less "vomiting", coughing, and plenty of energy PLUS their litter box doesn't STINK any more. I still clean their litter boxes every day and the amount of liquid lumps is about the same but the solid is less and the only smell is the litter itself. (This is because they eat less total and what they eat is better digested, so less remains to pass on through.)

I agree with Angrykitty, I also think it's an act of terrorism and don't think for a second it is going to stop with pets. I firmly believe it will get much worse before it gets better.

I am really wondering how long before this stuff gets into people food. I also wonder if this is not another attack on our country. It amazes me that this was able to happen at all. I wonder how a company can think they can get by with this, putting another ingredient in a product and not placing it on the label.

Oh man, this is getting ridiculous poor animals are going to end up hunting in the wild for food soon. I really don't understand why this keeps happening.
