and I mean full checkups with your family doctor?
I haven't done one in years so my son and I did ours at the same time last week and I am happy to hear I am "A" ok! I have yet to receive the results of my sons test but I was informed today that he was "A" ok too even after taking another hearing test with an ENT specialist. He passed that with flying colors and was told he had excellent hearing. I think he has "selective" hearing and only chooses to listen when he wants to LOL sounds like his father LOL.
Anyways, How about you? how often do you go and see your doctor for a full check-up? Do they remind you of when your next one is due? Do physicals scare you?

For my job I am required to get a physical every year, so I have no choice in the matter, so no they don't scare me, I am used to them by now.

No such thing is done here, you just come as you have a problem. They simply won't have the time for checkups like that.
But as a med student we practice on each other for the physicals about once a month, so I get a full physical once a month pretty much anyways.

So your in the Netherlands? nice! Well at least you don't have to pay for your physicals since you get checked on a monthly basis even if only by other medical students. Thanks for responding!

Such packages are available in big corporate hospitals but it is not affordable. Whenever we fell ill we go to doctor for particular problem, that is all.

Once a year for a full physical. I have allergy problems and actually see my doctor every 6 months to make sure everything is OK and no new problems. I have blood tests scheduled for June and my appointment is in July. They will give me my next set of appointments for 6 months later at that appointment.
My husband is a diabetic and he sees his doctor ever 3 - 4 months plus a full physical once a year.
Not going for a couple years is like Russian Roulette. My husband had not been going in for his physical for about 4 years and when he went they found out he was diabetic (he just didn't realize it). If he had been going regularly they would have caught it before he actually became diabetic and a few dietary changes would have kept it away for many years.

Your husband sounds like my father who refused to go for checkups even when he was ill. He also has diabetes and has to go for regular scheduled checkups too. Thanks for your response speakeasy!

To be honest, I'm afraid of doctors, so I try to avoid going unless there's something seriously wrong. My doctor is basically a blonde Cruella DeVille; she's tall, anorexically thin, and with a voice deepened from chain-smoking. She scolds me as if she's my mother, but she's overall pretty cool. I change my doctor about every year, though, because of insurance plans or whatever.
But generally I go for checkups once a year or less. It's not really anything for me to worry about; I'm still young (17) and overall healthy, except for bad circulation and some minor problems every now and then. But still, I'm always uncomfortable with the thought of someone getting so upclose to my body, and of course, there's the possibility something really will be seriously wrong.

Know the feeling. I would only go to see a doctor if i needed to too. Only now since we moved to the USA and we have medical insurance through my husband, I am making an effort to get regular checkups. Thanks hachimitsu for your response.

I think so, I mean it all depends. If you haven't had any problems over the years then I suppose ok, but I would just in case. My last one was 5 years ago and the reason why I chose to do it this time was because I've been hearing a lot about health issues a lot of women around our age are going through i.e. cancer and so forth so while I was reading an article about pap smears, I just thought to myself, I should get myself checked.. (I'm 36) so the choice is really yours but it wouldn't hurt to get one done :)

I used to be much better at going to the OB/GYN every year, but I got bad about it for a few years. Last year was my first full physical since I was in junior high (25+ years) and I'm actually due for this years. I need to call and make that appt - thanks for reminding me!

I go once a year, and found out this year, that my cholesterol is a little high, and I have a vitamin D deficiency, so, if I hadn't gone, I never would have known.
Yes, it scares me, but, I bite the bullet, put on the paper gown, and get on with it.

Last time, I used to do some comprehensive blood tests and cancer markers on a yearly basis. Now, it has been more than 3 years since my last checkup and I have not done any. Simply because there were some recommendations that checkups need not be done regularly. I choose to take this wise recommendation and not waste money.

I hate physicals and only go when necessary. I can't even remember the last real physical I have had, it's been a few years. I get check ups for other stuff, but no physicals. I do get nervous, but only because I don't like to be poked and prodded..lol!

I haven't had a physical for over 30 years, and No I'm not Scared! I stay away from the Dr. because I'm healthy and I want to enjoy my good health. If I had a physical the Dr.would bend over backwards to find a problem (he would succeed) and then I would no longer be able to enjoy good health. I believe that all disease begins in the Mind. So when the Dr. tells me I'm sick and gives me some pills I will began to feel sick.
After all its the Dr.'s job to find medical problems, and I believe that most Md's are very good at doing what they are trained to do. If its not broke don't fix it!
Is there anybody else out there with the courage to stay away from the Medical Society?
