What Makes Us Decide Which Course To Take Up In College

There are some of us who had already an idea as to what course to take up in college long before we get there. But, sadly, most of us are unable to pursue a perceived target. For most of us around here, what has made you finally take that college course? Did you finish it and make use of it in your efforts at earning a living?

I had finished accountancy, it is not the best course i want to not even the job i want to have, but due to time and financially consuming of changing from one course to another i decided to finish it in a way. Before i go into college i already have an idea what course i'd really love to finish because my best interest is there. Unfortunately, due to lack of financial resources i should take up a course which is affordable. I want to go on engineering course, but my mom and my sister challenged me and discourage me to take up that course because we don't have money, and have to go to another place to study because that course were not offered in our place.
I pursue finishing the course of accountancy though my heart really hate it, i am just thinking once i got a job, i can continue studying and get the course i want. I give my best effort in it, still not love it. Sadly, my dream did not come true, because the salary after college is not pretty good and the tuition fee is too high in the place i am working.

i find your story to be a sad one. when we do not get to finish the course that we ever wanted, we will always wonder until old age, how would life been if we had pursued to career we had always loved. but accountancy is a good degree to have, too. it is really not that bad. after all, lots of engineers have also landed in jobs where the companies have accountants held in high esteem. so cheer up. i hope that you will do well in your present job. if you are considering going back to school, the next thing to do will be to take up either law school or a graduate course - pursue a masteral degree then, onwards to having a doctoral degree. this will surely bring you to greater heights.

Thanks for your advice, I welcome it but due to lack of interest in studying further inline with my course, I divert my focus in entering entrepreneurship, wherein i can utilize what i've learned from the course i have and the experience at my job. I want to be good in business, being a boss of myself and formulating tactics to make the business improve and successful. Engineering matters is still on my mind but maybe i can dream for my child, i wish he also have same interest as mine but if not, i will be glad to support him whatever he want.

This is a good subj. that many youngsters have problems with. The best decisions are made by those that are independent. Because many take the classes that their parents want them to take, then others take classes in a field that they think they want to work in but yet have not done the research to see if they like that field. For those reading this that are counselors, please help our young.

yes, the young really need counsellors to guide them in finding the right field of interest which they can afford or their parents can help them go through college and finish school. there are also ways to get support from other means which the young ones are not aware of.

For me, i think this has two elements to it, depending upon personel circumstances. There are those who have a clearly defined career goals and choose their subjects to achieve these goals.
However, there are those, like myself who had no idea what we wanted to do after graduation and therefore chose subjects we were interested in
blessed be

it is right to do something which shall be fruitful and most advantageous to us. if you are interested to know the best career for you to pursue, just seek for the services of a psychologist. the pyshcologist will give you some tests which shall make known your field of interest and the suitable courses to take.

Hi, trinidadvelasco. I was almost an idiot when I went to schoole, I choose finance asmy major which I don't know what excactly that about,my major not accounting but banking. I was eager to work for a bank after graduation, but I failed. I went to another company as assistance.Untill now I did not work for any job which is related to banking, I felt I waste 4 years.

I took up a pre-med course back in the Philippines when I was in College. When my dad retired, I could not go on to medical school because of the expense. I had other siblings that need to go to college. I did find a job in a small private clinic and worked there for a while but the pay was not even enough for my fare to and from work. I just took it to gain work experience. So I decided to work for an airline at NAIA which paved the way for me to get here in the US. Now I am in IT, I know my college diploma helped me in landing jobs, but my job is not the field that I had intended in the beginning. I don't regret it either.

My best advice if a proposed plan is not readily available, seek a course on something you know only basic stuff and really have a desire to know more. Don't worry too much if it seems like this course won't pan out into something greater later, you never know. Many courses I took over the twelve years in school, after high school, allowed for a diversity in curriculam vitae.
Expand your horizons that is what college is for and if you also learn a skill to eran you boo-coup monies, then go for it with zest and perseverence !
I forged ahead and went almost all the way with degrees, a PhD is the last and I will be working towards that sometime in 2009; in the meantime I counsel, advise, photograph and devise stories that earn income to bring words for the wise . . .

i chose my course, but of course i take my parents suggestions into considerations. im taking international business management and entrepreneurship. its my second choice, because i shifted from accountancy. my mom didnt get mad because all she wants to happen to me is to graduate no matter how long it will take me.
