My wife works in a Middle Eastern Restaraunt owned by a man born and raised in Almansura Egypt. I have heard many stories about the culture of Egypt. I want to hear about the system they use for the announcement of prayers and other announcements they have. He tells me that people go to the microphone to announce missing family, car accidents, things along these lines as well as the time for daily prayers. Is this true? Do they litterally have speakers on poles throughout areas in Egypt for this puropose? If so have you as an Egyptian ever used it? What for is you did? I'm just really curious about other cultures throughout the world. Masalaam. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I read the responses to this discussion, because I wanted to find out about these customs in Egpyt. I see one pewrson who is married to an Egyptian has given a good reponses. As your wife works in an Egyptian restuarant, do you ge to eat any of the food? I would love to try Egyptian food. Perhaps there are not many Egyptians on MY LOt.

Yummy! You lucky person getting to eat there once a week, or more. I make Tabuoli sometimes but it wouldn';t be anywhere near as good as the authentic recipe.

Hi grandpa.I'm Greek, born at Turkey and married with Egyptian.I visit Egypt so many times that I stop count.I never hear any announces from microphones but I always go to Cairo the capital,Mansure is a small town so maybe there is different.About praying times, are 5 times at 24 hours. Then YES from the microphone of the mosque you hear the pray loud for anyone want pray . Also they are many people selling withcarrage with donkey many things, like fish, vegetables etc.some they have micro but the most just very lound voice. If you want learn anything else about Egypt just ask.The last thing I can say the people are so kind and friendly.

I am real curious too. It's seems that its people there are the ones who delivers the news and not the news network or the newspaper. It also kinda feel weird being the one to do the announcing or reporting instead of having people just handle it. Happy announcing!

i am from Egypt , and from Elmansoura , yes we use the speakers for pray becase the mosques is always big , and we must hear the Emam (the religion man) , i think it is no problem with it , as many use the speakers at university , theaters , ..... please visit my blog about Egypt , i am sure that you will like it http://egypt21.blogspot.com/
