Yes I am able to concentrate more on my studies, if some good music is turned on. Actually if the music is not there I might actually doze off to sleep. So it is not just in terms of concentration, but also in terms of conitnuity, that background works for me. But the fact is that I want music of my choice, no hip-hop, some soothing music, soft and subtle, with some good lyrics as well.

It depends on what kind of "noise" is that. I once tried reviewing with the radio on and I played acoustic ballads. It actually helped me clear my mind and concentrate on my notes. I hate it when loud an inconsiderate people are inside the same room. I hate that!

Absolutely no! I really wonder how some people can study with music. They say it stimulates their brain. If i do something serious, i prefer silence.

I prefer to be alone when studying. It sounds tempting if there are people with you while you study because your attention might shift to other things like, when they chat with you about the things that captures your interests, of course, you can't help but to exchange thoughts. Sometimes, they might be a procrastinator to you.

I have been exposed to all types of environments in studies and have a few intersting observations to make. If the course is interesting and engrossing, a bit of noise or music in the background actually stimulates interest and makes for better concentration. However, if it is confusing and frustrating, noise can really be a hindrance as we requirea ll the concentration that we can muster. Thus it all depends on the subject and of course our commitment to it.

Hello,toxic_f22, i am not studying anymore, but i thought i could not concentrate if i was listening to musics when i was studying,it was even hard for me to think when i was listening to musics, may be the musics had occupied all my mind. Noises would affect me to concentrate and i could only study well in a quiet environment.

I can't...... When I need to concentrate on sth,for me,a particular environment suitable for me is needed~~actually most important thing depends on my own mood ... one of my roommates can do sth serious when she listen to the music, feel so envy of her~~

For many people it is not easy. I love music in the background while working. In fact, even during college days, I used to read with music in the air. I will say that music stimulated me. I could read and concentrate better. I do not get unduly disturbed by the noise around. I might even keep my TV on while I am on the computer or reading. In between, I peep at the pictures on the TV. Whatever, external disturbances do affect the speed of work. I am essentially talking about those distractions which pull me away from work. There are internal and external distractions. Amongst the internal distractions we can mention overwork, too many occupations, family problems, job related problems, money problems etc. Amongst the external problems, we can think of government policies, weather, noise, guests, phone calls, friends and relatives, neighbors etc. I think in this age we have to learn how to concentrate amongst a sea of distractions. We have no choice. Otherwise, one should go to the mountains or truly secluded places. Even those places are not quite anymore. So live with it.

I prefer music to be playing in the background preferably mild music. I find it to be comforting. I usually study during the night. So, if there's no music playing in the background, I usually sleep ! And that's the reason I prefer to play music while studying and also I take breaks quite often and the music helps me to refresh. :)
