Mylot guidlines

I see a lot of discussions here that violate mylot guidelines and then people complain when there topics are deleted. My question is how many of you actually read the guidelines and are respecting them? How many of you actually use the search? How many of you have read that is not ok to Post copyrighted articles or photos, Post to “flame” other users, Post similar or identical postings, Post discussions criticizing members for bad/broken English or bad spelling and last but not least start discussions on individual issues you are having with myLot. I'm guilty of violating a guideline or two when I posted a similar discussion, but I do use my search and try not to violate the guidelines. I think if people actually started reading the guidelines there would be less problems. We could make the mylot staff's job easier. Don't you think?

I do try and follow the rules, and yep I read them. I am guilty of starting posts that are the same or similar (like the ear piercing one!) but I do search, but I must use the wrong words or somethnig! Occasionally I don't search and that's totally my fault, and if my post gets removed i'm ok with that.

I will be the first to admit that I haven't read the guidelines, and I don't do a search when I post a discussion. However, I try to be respectful of others whenever I post on here (which I think probably keeps me safe on most discussions) and I try to make unique post (which should take care of me on the other guidelines). So far, I don't believe anything I have written has been deleted. I have commented on a few articles where people wrote that other material they posted has been deleted. IF they are to be believed, it wasn't for violating guidelines, but for posting unpopular opinions on religion.

I have read the guidelines and try to ensure that I abide by them. When I start discussions I usually post from my own experiences and life, and write them in a way which does not compromise any other similar discussions.

you are right on all points, swtrose. the problem is, i am guilty too about not going through the entirety of mylot guidelines. i read through rather kind of not fully understanding the whole thing. it is good though that up to now, i have not posted any single discussion which is worthy of deletion. my problem revolves around having responded to a lot of discussions which got deleted. there is no way at all that i can pinpoint which ones have posted copy paste discussions and which ones are also violative of mylot guidelines. like when they say we are not supposed to respond to jokes and recipes which get posted.

I use the search before posting a discussion but sometimes I wonder if I don't put the correct wording in. I also found out you can not put a question mark at the end of the search, it says page cannot be found, it took me retyping the same thing about 10 times to figure this out lol. Since I am still semi-new to MyLot and hubby is on it all the time I ask him to look it up for me. The other things you mentioned just seem like they should be common knowledge. Be nice and play nice and don't steal things that don't belong to you. Same rules apply to "real life".

I read the guidelines when I joined here. I respect the guidelines and I respect all my friends here. I am annoyed at the improper postings but I don't mind if people comment on my broken English or bad spelling, because it is for English that I'm here.

I am sure that I have violated them since i do not always use the search before starting a discussion, but i do not think that I have ever had a discussion deleted so that ougtha be a sign that I am following them pretty good =) I have read them once and I think that most of them are just common sense, even if I do not remember them all right now =)

I may have violated a rule or two. However, the rules are complicated, and sometimes I am not always paying the strictest of attention when posting to MyLot. Sometimes, I post a discussion strictly on impulse. To my knowledge, no one has held it against me. I will say this. I am always polite on MyLot as I am when I pen this post here. The only time or times I have lost points or money is when I have disagreed on sensitive topics such as the controversial stuff posted by thin-skinned MyLotters. Some folk are exceedingly touchy about disagreement. There are entire discussions devoted to this touchiness of certain MyLotters. As for flaming or bashing posters with bad English, I don't do that.

Guidelines will always be guidelines but do you realize that the members who violate the guidelines do not get kick out from mylot? Guidelines are only rules that are written by people, if every member obeys the guidelines, will there be fun in mylot?

I read the guidelines when I first signed up, but I never search before I post. I don't see the point. If we're here for the free flow of ideas, why block it? Does it really matter if someone did something similar, especially if it was months ago? Why should we have to restrict ourselves to answering something no one's posted to for months? If we follow the rest of the guidelines, I think we should be OK. Besides, I'm so weird, it's highly unlikely I'll duplicate somebody else!

OK, so the very next day, I'm proved a liar, because there were about five of us, all writing about the Grey's Anatomy Season Finale. It's quite interesting, because each of us has our own take on it, and our own style writing it up. I gotta believe myLot won't be mad, because some overlapping is inevitable anytime you get a really popular event, season endings or concerts, anything like that.

Things like that happen. I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it. You do bring up a point and look at the American Idol discussions. lol
