60 year old man, with a cart full of Bacos.

You remember Baco's? Those little plastic bottles of bacon chips that were meant to go in your salad mainly, but whatever else you wanted? So a few days ago, in the Commissary (the military grocery store), this older man, probably about 60, had an entire cart 3/4 full of BACOS. He had like two other small items in the top part of the cart, but the entire big part of the cart had the bacos. I wonder why? It seems sad that maybe he couldn't afford much else? Retirement pay from the military isn't the greatest and he had a limp so I assume he is probably disabled too. :( What are you views on this, and have you ever seen anything similar?

Seriously, I am asking next time I see him, if I ever see him again. I'll just do it in a joking way and see if he even responds!

Oh no- that is very sad. I have never seen anything like it before- I wonder why he had so many baco’s or bacon bits- How sad. Maybe they were having a party or something and he needed them? It’s sad to think that it might be all he can afford- Here in regular stores- not military stores- Bacon bits are expensive. How sad!

Yeah, the commissary has some good prices like on meats, but some prices aren't that great. Well if I ever see him again I am going to ask why he buys so many, in a nice way of course. Just because I want to know! I am sure for the price of all the baco's he's gotta be able to buy something else?! Maybe he has abig fish tank, i never would have thought of that!

whooops I forgot to mention the similar that I have seen. It was also at a Military Commissary. The new Priest was in doing his shopping... like your gentleman he had 1 or 2 items that were different from the prevailing content of his cart. Only instead of Bacos, this Father had a cart filled with large green bottles of extra strength medicine. Makes you wonder what his new duty station was doing to him!

I tend to agree with LadyLJS he probably got them for free and was going to feed a LOT of fish with them. They are full of protein as they are made with soy. Another thought, and perhaps it is probable - he is the vender for BACOs and it is his duty to empty the shelves of expired or discontinued Bacos? Military retirement is certainly not enough to live on - but he is probably drawing social security now as well. He should not be so bad off that he fills his cart with bacos. That many bacos would not be very cheap anyhow. Even if they are $1 a bottle (not sure how much the cost it has been awhile, I buy them at a bulk store for 33cents a pound, hehe) he would be better off to trade 1 bottle for a dozen eggs. Another bottle can be put back and a pound of carrots can be had. Another bottle and a pound of ground turkey can be purchased. 3 bottles and a pound of hard cheese can go into the cart. Well, you get the drift.

I wonder of the commissary didn't just give their expired stock to him and he was taking it out of the store?!?! Another thought is something that my dad used to do...use it to feed the fish!
