I have a little kitten called Leo and he is on hunger strike. He is about 6 months old and hasn't really eated much in days. He seems healthy enough and nothing too eventful has happened. The house is calm as usual.
Do cats do this sometimes? He is our first cat. Every few hours or so I put out more wet food and milk. He has his dry food but he is only interested in water....He has been attending the bathroom with no problems.
I don't think it isn't anything to worry about and I know cats are clever and if they chose not to eat then they are doing the rigth thing but I just want to put my mind at rest.

Well I think you ought to take him to the Vets Claire, - just to make sure. As you say - it may not be anything to worry about, - especially if he isn't being sick, - but cats are like kids, and they rarely go off their food unless they're unwell in some way. He might just have a slight fever and a sore throat - that would make him want to drink a lot but make eating painful. Or perhaps he has just gone off his usual food, and wants to try something different. If were you I would take him for a check-up, just to put your mind at rest.

I gave him a little tin of his favourite cat posh pate and he devoured in an instant so i think he just being a little spoiled.
Thanks for thinking us anyway.

Our cats do that occassionally and sometimes it is a simple explanaion. They are just sick of the brand of food we are getting them, even if we mix up the flavours. I guess like us they like a bit of variety, as well?

I am so confused about whether not to spoil him and let him eat what hes got when he is starving or to go to the shops and buy him an alternative.

Dont worry about this at all as they will eat when hungry and if you see no ill effects he isnt hurting. I think you are doing well to keep an eye on him though. Cats can be persnickity.

I think Leo just likes to keep the attention on him. He probably felt as though there wasn't anything chaotic happenening with him so he would go on a hunger strike.
Thanks for the reassurance!
