More than just a Happy Meal...

United States

This morning as I was driving my son to school, listening to the radio, the deejays were talking about a father in Illinois had taken his 3 children to McDonald's for Happy Meals. 2 of the 3 children got the normal toy in their Happy Meal box., his daughter found a cigarette lighter, a pipe and a bag of pot. A 17 year old faces charges of drug possession plus a few other charges. He said he was using the box to hide his stash while he was at work. I don't know how old the girl is but if she got a Happy Meal I am sure she is young. How do you explain what it is and why it is in the Happy Meal to a child? Doesn't say much about McDonald's hiring practices, does it? I thought business had to do drug testing now-a-days... guess not.

wow that is a surprise it would depend on the child's age how i would explain it basically saying that that is bad stuff that can hurt you and there was a person that was not very good that left it in there and it was accidentally given to them and explain never to touch anything that looks like that stuff

I believe I would be honest with my child and tell her the truth about what it was . I feel that honesty is always the best approach with my children , no matter the age . I have always felt that if they are more educated on things such as this that there won't be as much curiosity to see what it is all about when they are older . I would also let her know that we would get her something else since she didn't get her happy meal but I wouldn't be going back to that McDonald's any time to soon . Stuff like this is actually frightening to think about who they have working for them and why someone would feel the need to take this to work with them and hide it in a Happy Meal for a child .

Holy cow! That is awful. How many of us just hand the happy meal to our child in the back seat without another thought? I will be sure to look in the sack first from now on. That is unbelieveable. I would be surprised if that person did not get a child endangerment charge slapped on him. For pete's sake, if you are going to do something so stupid, at least hide it some place where it might not be placed in the hands of a child! He must have smoked some before starting his shift, lol.

wow. quite an intersting piece of news there, but i guess its not easy for McDonald's to screen every single person who wishes to work with them, after all I'd imagine that the staff turnover rate for the crew would be pretty high especially if young teens and young adults are just working part time for some extra cash.

I reaslly hope that they have free happy meals for the rest of their lives IF this happened to me i would be furious. I am sure that Mcdonalds will do whatever they can to prevent this from happening in the future.

I'm completely gutted. Why don't I ever get stuff like that in happy meals? If any other children face the same dissapointment, I have a huge stash of Mcdonalds toys. Send them in my direction and I'll gladly arrange a trade! Seriously though, what kind of idiot must that kid be? I am a smoker, but take responsibility for my own actions and keep things discreet. Morons like this are what gives smoking a bad image. Like most people who enjoy a drink, it should be enjoyed responsibly with like-minded adults. It interests me to think whether people would have quite the same reaction if the kid had stashed a flask of booze in that box.

This is really sad that Mcdonalds would hire someone like this. It's really ignorant on the boys behalf that done it.We never know anymore what were getting when we order out.It makes you not want to eat out because you worry about the thimgs you can't see.Like what's in your hamburger or something.
