The "fairness" doctrine is anything but "fair"

The Pelosi/Reid Congress is talking about bringing back a broadcast policy dubbed, "The Fairness Doctrine". The fairness doctrine mandates that broadcast radio and tv shows have to be "fair and balanced. What is fuelling Pelosi and Reid's new found interest in this policy is, they want to shut Conservatives up. Air America was such a dismal failure that it couldn't stay afloat even in the most liberal markets. In fact, when given a choice, more liberals listened to Rush Limbaugh than Air America. Since freedom of choice isn't working for them, Pelosi and Reid are hoping to take that choice away. This is what we get for knowlingly giving the U.S. Congress to the likes of Pelosi/Reid. ~~~~~ "Equality isn't equal and Fairness is never Fair" ~ ParaTed2k's (Not So) Famous Sayings.

The Fairness Doctrine is aimed squarely at freedom of choice. Freedom of choice is not fair to the democrats because their message is a non-starter. Anything the democrats say or claim is usually very easily trumped or disproven by the conservatives. As it stands, most radio and TV shows are broadcast with a liberal slant, so it is not like the liberal message is not out there, because it is. This would not change under the fairness doctrine...what would change is that it would make it harder for the conservative message to be told, and easier for the liberals to cry foul if they did not like the message. This is yet another attempt by the liberals to further erode our freedom of speech.

I agree with you and Destiny007. There is nothing "fair" about the Fairness Doctrine and it would be laughable if it wasn't such an affront. With the blatant leftist spin in most media outlets already, how they can claim they're not getting "equal" time is beyond me. It's completely dishonest. It's much like other "equal rights" issues where the group promoting equality doesn't really want equality at all but demands superiority. AM radio, cable TV, and the internet give conservatives as well as others who aren't far left a voice. I guess they'll be trying to control the internet next.
