Okay, so I really need to know how to rid my new home of ants. Once in a blue moon I will find them throughout the house but they are mainly in the kitchen. What upsets me is that my house is very clean and my kitchen is super clean and probably now as clean as it can possibly get because I am trying to get rid of these pests.
I thought that if there was no food source for them to come after - then they wouldn't come in. I can't find where their food source is as I clean everything and food is not left out. Dishes are rinsed and cleaned right away.
I need a safe product or old fashioned method because I have a 5 and 3 year old and a dog that roams both my inside and outside. I don't want anyone or anything hurt...except for the nasty ants. :-)
Any help would be great. I am about to go crazy over this.

well ants dont come into your house because it is dirty. they are drawn into a house when the weather gets nice out. their stay is usually only thru spring.
we have a ton of ants in my house. i dont believe in using pesticides so if necessary, we will use those ant traps in corners and under the table, places where the kids wont bother them.
my friend has 4 chickens that just roam around her backyard. she used to get ants but the chickens dont allow them into the house anymore. i keep saying to her that i need to borrow one of her chickens for a few days..lol.
at any rate...just keep telling yourself that they arent cockroaches. it could be so much worse.
but really...try the ant traps. they help a lot!!

The ants are getting weirdly numerous, and I haven't seen any honeybees, yet, only carpenter bees... hmmmmm..

I know what you mean.
I am also facing the same problem.
After keeping the kitchen clean and free of exposed food, the ants migrated to my dining table.
Once I got them cleared from the dining table, I only had a few months of bliss. Now they are found in my bedroom!
It is indeed frustrating!
I have taken to search the web for a solution as well.
I have read that peppermint oils and salt will keep them at bay. I am thinking of using them in my mop water the next time I mop the floor. I hope it will work.
Will update when I can. ;)
