I have had a major problem with sleeping here in the last month. I just stay up all night and i am so exhausted during the day i am dragging my butt all day. It has become a vicious cycle for me i am thinking about looking for a job that has a graveyard shift i would be perfect for it lol. Well all jokes aside though it is really starting to effect my health and i need to get my body back into sinc again but i dont know how can you help out with this one my fellow mylotters? I get one good night a week and that is out of pure exhaustion i really need some help here. I am tired of walking around in a daze from lack of sleep.

One of the things that I do every night that seems to helpme is to write a few lines in a journal...it helps me to empty my head so that I can rest....sometimes I also do a short to-do list for the next day...just to get these things out of my head.... Maybe you are experiencing some increased stress that is causing your mind to not "shut down".... Try the journal....it may help..... Another thing that you can do is to drink some warm chamielle tea before going to bed...no caffeine and it has a natural calming affect.... Are you eating a balanced diet...that can affect your energy level...not as much as sleep....but is highly important as well....Do not skip breakfast...it can help you to feel more energized during the day... I hope that some of this helps...

Try melatonin. I was having the same problem. I would fall asleep about 5 or 6 AM after being up all night. I started taking melatonin and within about a month I got back into a pretty good sleep pattern and no longer need to take it. I took it for about 3 or 4 weeks and would sleep then realized that was falling asleep without taking it, so I stopped.

I think you need to go to the doctor- Sleep is very important. You can't function properly without it. Maybe the doctor can write you some prescription for it- or at least tell you how to get sleep- Have you ever tried advil PM? How about reading at night- Always puts me to sleep-

Well, first start with things you have control over. No caffine after 6 p.m., no vigorous exercise for two hours before bedtime, no stimulating activity [for me that includes t.v., phone conversations, etc.] for at least one hour before bedtime, establish a bedtime routine that prepares your mind and body for sleep. You might try L-tryptofan (misspelled, I'm sure) in your health food stores. You can have warm milk with a spoon of honey or sugar. There is something about heating the milk that produces the drowsy effect. You can play relaxing music at a low volume as you prepare to go to sleep. You can even find self-hypnosis recordings that can teach you to sleep. When all else fails, consult your doctor! :-) You may need a sleep study or a prescription for one of the new medications that are non-habit-forming. It is a serious problem when you don't get enough sleep. It can even be fatal! You could go to sleep while driving - I used to. Your reaction time is slowed and your perception cloudy when you don't sleep, so decision making is affected. It can increase your blood pressure, causing stroke. So take it seriously and get some rest!
