Way to go Oklahoma!

House Bill 1804 was passed by overwhelming majorities in both the House and Senate of the Oklahoma Legislature. The measure's sponsor, State Representative Randy Terrill, says the bill has four main topical areas: it deals with identity theft; it terminates public assistance benefits to illegals; it empowers state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws; and it punishes employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. Oklahoma is no longer "O.K." for illegal aliens, Terrill observes. "When you put everything together in context," he contends, "the bottom line is illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting for them, they will not stay here if there is no government subsidy, and they certainly won't stay here if they know that if they ever encounter our state and local law enforcement officers, they will be physically detained until they're deported. And that's exactly what House Bill 1804 does." http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/05/oklahoma_no_longer_ok_for_ille.php I say Bravo! If more states would do this without waiting on the US government to do something, we might have less of a problem! I wish Texas would do something like this!

Way to go OK!! I think Rep Terrill hit the nail on the head. The illegals won't go there if they can't get jobs or welfare benefits. I wish the other states would wise up and follow suit. And I would like to see someone have the courage to write and pass a bill that says illegals can't buy property or open bank accounts or have credit.

I received a letter in the mail the other day that tells me I have to prove one time only that my children are U.S. citizens. This is a small price to pay for having this new law on the books and one I will be glad to do. Now my state will be able to better help its true citizens.

I live east of Rockford about 20 to 25 miles or so in a small town. I understand everything you said in your comment to me. Working in the PD I see it all the time.

That was great to hear that Oklahoma is doing something about the illegal immigration. I hope that other states will take action like they did against illegal immigration. It is ridiculous how many people are coming here illegally and getting away with so much stuff and taking away things from us.

All right Oklahoma! Now if the rest of the country would just do the same... It is obvious that we can't rely on the federal government to take any kind of appropriate action on our behalf, so our states must be strong enough to stand up for ourselves. I am glad that Oklahoma had the courage and the strength to do what needed to be done. Now we just need to get the rest of the states to do the same.

Exactly! If there are any breaks cut to the illegal ones, they should have to stand in line behind the true immigrants who are doing it right.

OOOOOOOH-klahoma, where illegals can't come across the plains! Oops, sorry. I got carried away singing. It starts with the employers first. If they don't hire illegals, there won't be jobs for them. These employers are just out to make a big buck by paying crap for wages to people that are desparate to work, albeit illegally. This entire country needs to stop catering to illegals and their needs. Let's hope that other states will follow Oklahoma's example, starting with Washington, D.C. and the Federal Branches of our government. PEACE

My hat is off to the Oklahoma Legislature in dealing with illegal aliens. If all our states would do the same thing and not sit around waiting on the federal government to do something, it sure would help. I cannot understand how some states (mine included) just welcome them with open arms, turn a blind eye to the fact that they're here illegally, and give them so many of the benefits that should only be for legal citizens. Too many of our legal citizens can't even get some of the benefits they just hand to the illegal citizens, and it infuriates me.

That is wonderful. I think it is great. My grandparents used to live in OK and the one town they moved from was taken over by them because Tyson had a plant nearby. They would live 15-20 people in a house. It was crazy. I didn't like going there to visit them.

Well, that is just so great for them and I hope they keep on passing some good bills like that one.

I absolutely agree with you. Yeah! Kudos to Oklahoma. If all the other States would follow what a difference it would make to our citizens.

I think this is a good thing. Given what is going on everywhere that these types of laws are passed, I expect that the legal challenges to it will begin soon. It is too bad the federal government doesn't seem as eager to deal illegal immigration as some state and local ones are.

Oh how I wish Illinois would do something similar. My small town is over half illegal. And working in a Police Dept, we see so many come in with no valid Drivers License and all they do is pay $100 bond and off they go. I live very close to the Wisconsin border, and they all have Wisconsin plates because they ask for much less when registering a vehicle, etc. If the employers would stop hiring them, it would make it so much more difficult. I am fluent in Spanish and at my last job, I was a translator. They actually had the people bring in new social security numbers when the ones they were using came back bad !!

I moved to Oklahoma 5 years ago after living my whole life in Illinois. Like you I lived in a small town up there, about 40 minutes south of Rockford and that town was inundated with illegals. I worked as a school bus driver and my bus was hit from behind by an illegal that had no license and no insurance. The school district had to pay for the loss which takes away from the kids' education. I noticed northern states have a high population of illegals and American citizens are having a harder time trying to find work because of them. One of my best friends back there gave birth to twins that were fathered by an illegal. She had a spanish name and some illegal stole her social security number. My friend had to prove that her daughter was an American citizen and that she wasn't a 30 some year old person (she was only 1 1/2 years old at the time) applying for disablity benifits. This took over 2 years to do.

Exactly. Wish my home state would do it to. I have often said that when our ancestors came they had to tough it out. Nothing free. No easy way and they came legally! Good for Oklahoma for having such insite!
