Does anyone out there share our problem of a cat that recieves much attention but continues to meow for more all the time? We have several cats and we love our Maine Coone very much (deliberately misspelled. Checker will not accept proper spelling). They are talkative as a breed, but we are talking here earplugs to stay sleep! She doesn't seem to learn, respond to yelling, being thrown out of the room, crying, begging or anything we have tried. She just meows ALL THE TIME!Any thoughts?

I have a little cat that meows all the time, too. In my case, I took her to the vet one day and all the way to him and back, she was terribly scared and meowed all the time. She had a cold, so the doctor recommended we keep her inside for a while. So we took her to our apartment (We live in a house with a lot of cats), because my mom wouldn't let me keep her in our house, and because he needed to be isolated from the other cats. But from that moment, she didn't stop meowing... day or night she did that all the time! At first I thought it was because she was alone, so I brought his sister with him... But that didn't solve the problem... He's still meowing, even when I'm with him. Well, actually he calms down a bit when I stay with him, but then he starts all over again. In my problem I don't see the reason, or maybe he remained shocked from that vet... but you should try taking your cat to a vet, maybe she is hurt and you don't know. Or maybe, as in my case, something scared him very much, and he remained shocked. Good Luck with this!

Hi Moonlight, Thanks for your thoughts. She has been to the vet many times! He doesn't know know what the problem is and I am on the verge of investing in a pair of ear plugs! I love her though.

Our cat started this after my daughter's dog came for a visit last year, and it took forever for her to stop. It seemed that we never got a moment's peace because she was always crying. Sometimes she would even be meowing while being held and petted. This just is not like her at all. I think she was traumatized by having a dog in her house. She still has days when she seems to need a little extra attention, but not like before. I wish I could tell you how to help her to stop, but all I can suggest is extra attention. It has taken nearly a year for the constant crying to stop here, and I hope that you don't have to deal with the same.

Have your cats been fixed? I know before I had my female cat, Sara, fixed should would be crying all night and we couldn't get any sleep. It was because she was in heat.

Ours is also neutered and has been our baby for years. I just wondered because even though I tried to pay extra attention to her when my daughter's dog was here, she has been acting this way ever since, and this has been a couple of years now. Just another thought, I'm not sure how much of it was fear, and how much of it was a territorial thing. Did you happen to get any other pets around the time this started, or has she always been this way? If it started after the arrival of a new pet, she could be acting out like a spoiled child out of jealousy even if she is getting lots of attention.

Hi Buffy and Kelly, Yes, all my cats are neutered and maybe something I am not aware of frightened her. I can't imagine what it could be. She gets so much attention anyway. These babies of ours! What to do, what to do? Thanks for your thoughts.

I had one like that years ago. Cats hate water so I would have a spray bottle of water with you. Everytime she starts in spray her. She will get the hint that meowing brings water and soon if she does it you will only have to lift up the bottle and she will stop. You have to be consistant though so she knows why she is getting sprayed. I hope this helps and you can get some sleep.

I call my cat Cry Baby, because from the day I brought her home as an 8 week old kitten all she does is cry. She is now over two years old, and still cries all the time. When she is outside, she cries to come in, when she is in, she cries to go out, when she is hungry she cries. She drives me batty. When we drove from PA to N. Carolina, I had her in a carrier and she cried for hours on end. I know it was hard on her traveling that far, but I thought I was going to lose my mind. I also had two big dogs in the car with me and they were good as gold.

Hi Dikuku- I know what you mean! It's so unnerving. Thanks for sharing. At least your dogs are quiet. Imagine if they weren't- a symphony of madness!

My cat meows continuously, and it appears she is not crying or asking for something. I even talk to her and she meows responses back...it's kind of comical. I've had her checked by a vet, and I was told she was part Siamese, and a characteristic of Siamese cats is they are very talkative. So that explains my case, could that be the solution to your problem? I don't think it's any differant than a jabbering two year old constantly speaking nonsense. I've just learned to live with it. You wouldn't punish a little kid for talking, so why a cat?
