When my children were that old, we spent time doing the following: I read out loud to them and let them touch the books and explore textures while they listened. When they played, I sang to them. I tried introducing a new sound, texture, color or other visually stimulating thing as often as I could to spark excitement and interest. When playing, I sat with my legs crossed on the floor so they could sit in there - the closeness without feeling the need to be held strengthed our bond. I also nursed my children beyond their first year to increase our bond. There are a lot of sites that give very good examples and suggestions for bonding rituals. I learned a lot from visiting sites like http://www.clubmom.com and http://www.about.com for tips, articles, advice and so on. This is an exciting time for you and your baby - you should be REALLY proud of yourself for being so concious of your child's needs.
