Best if you have a friend who is into photography, and with experience in wedding photography. but my guess is you don't, that's why you're asking in the first place. in that case, you should ask around friends for RELIABLE photographers. my friend had a horror experience when the photog didn't turn up and was late in getting a replacement. hello, this is our WEDDING we're talking abt! they need to be able to handle hectic stress and the pressures of a wedding event whilst capturing crucial moments in their shots. I paid S$750 because the photog was a friend. He's very talented and we LOVE our photos to bits. For my wedding pre-photoshoot (this traditional thing) we hired a professional for studio and outdoor shoots. Also loved the results but didn't have enough cash to purchase all of them!

I was really fortunate. My cousin was a photographer and he did it for FREE!!! He took really good pictures! This was 31 years ago.

i'm actually from the philippines so i don't know how photographer rates here compare with photographer rates there in the US. but just to give you an idea, we spent Php65000 (around $1200-$1300) for photos for our wedding. although it was expensive, we were very satisfied with the output. if you want a peek, here's a link to our wedding photos -- http://community.webshots.com/user/marloncez_101103

Sorry I can't help you. We went to Gatlinburg and had our wedding there and we did NOT have a photographer. I sure wish we would have. I missed out on the photo's. I am a photo lover so I was just young and we couldn't afford it. But if I had to do it over again, I would definately have a nice wedding here instead of going away and no one was there and no pictures.

The cheapest professional rate I've seen is $600, and the couple was not happy with his photography. I thought it was fine, but he didn't bother to edit out the bad photos before showing them which hurt him. If you're looking to save money and get a good job, call a nearby college and ask about a photography program or professor. They can recommend a student that is capable of doing it. One nice thing about hiring students is that they will give you all the negatives or digital files so that you can make your own reprints. Always ask to see portfolio, or photos from a previous wedding.
