Is POSITIVE thinking REALLY "positive"???

We hear it ALL the time: think "positive" thoughts, and u'll FEEL more positive. But, how TRUE is this REALLY? I say that merely trying 2 think "positive" thoughts, when u DON'T feel positive, is NOT going 2 solve your problems. Trying 2 CONVINCE yourself 2 feel DIFFERENTLY from how u ACTUALLY feel is a FUTILE endeavor at BEST, because "positive" thoughts and/or affirmations DON'T address what's REALLY going on with u! I don't believe that it's "negative" 2 acknowledge, and FACE your "so-called" negative feelings. While I don't think it's necessarily "healthy" 2 ALWAYS look at the "bad" side of things, being TRUTHFUL with yourself about your "NOT-so pleasant" feelings ISN'T negative! It's YOUR truth! Some people are natural optimists, and some are natural PESSIMISTS, and that's just the way it IS! NEITHER is "positive" or "negative"! They just ARE! And BOTH have VALUE! But, the popular, politically CORRECT stance is 2 ALWAYS try 2 look on the "bright" side. Well, I say, that the mere fact that u'd have 2 SEARCH 4 the "bright" side, in a situation, ALREADY says that it's NOT so "bright" 2 begin with! Otherwise, why would u have 2 LOOK 4 it? I believe in being HOPEFUL, and having an underlying belief that things WILL work out 4 u, in the end...WHATEVER it is that u're desiring! But, life isn't just all "positive". There IS "negativity" as well, and 1 CAN'T exist without the other, because we live in a world of DUALITY, so EVERYTHING has its OPPOSITE! Besides, without "negative", how would u discern what's "positive"? It's ALL SUBJECTIVE! I say that FACING your "negativity" IS "positive"! So, when does "positive" thinking become LYING 2 yourself, or AVOIDING your REAL issues? Are u an optimist, a pessimist, or a little of BOTH? Do u c VALUE in BOTH? Please let me know how U feel!

i also dont know what is meant by positive thinking ,i know the benefits of thinking positive ,but i have a doubt as per newtons law for every action we take there is an equal and opposite action.so if you do one positive action the life has to compensate it with negative action.i may be wrong in this theory also i have heard that positive always overcome negative.but one thing i have noticed i recently i started doing lot breathing exercises in the morning and i have noticed that it has improved by positivity or positive energy level.people says that see only positive side of an issue as far as i am concerned there are lot matters which may be positive to you and may affect positively in our life ,but this matters may negative to others and may adversily affect their life .ithink as a social being we have take in account others life also.

Interesting points, Manoj_s. Something "positive" 2 someone may be interpreted as "negative" 2 someone ELSE! As I said, it's all SUBJECTIVE! Thanks!

I think that it's good to think positive and be around positive people. I have times when I feel negative but when I feel like that I try to deal with it.

And THAT'S all I'm saying here! It's all about DEALING with REALITY! As I've said, I'm all 4 being positive! But, most IMPORTANTLY, I'm all about facing the TRUTH! Thanks 4 your response.

By thinking positive it is not that you are avoiding the problem in front of you, positive thinking is to face the situation and in believing that every problem has an end and there is a light at the end of tunnel and also after every night there would be a day.I agree Life is not all Positive but you will agree that it is also not all negative. Now it is your wish which side of the coin you want to remember heads or tails.

I agree with u, sunita64, in believing in the "light at the end of the tunnel". And, yes, life isn't all "positive" OR all "negative". But, what's "positive" 2 U could be "negative" 2 ME, and vice versa. It's a matter of opinion. I appreciate your response.

Facing the "negativity" in your life is ABSOLUTELY 100% of what brings the "positive" out of everyone. There are times in life when it does get to hard and you want to believe what everyone says about only looking at the positive side of things But the positve doesnt get to be seen UNLESS you figure out what is causing the hurt & pain in your life. When you keep all these raw emotions inside and not let them out they manifest into something that can control the way you think and go about your life. Nobody wants to talk about whats making them have these feelings but one must understand that in order to start the healing process..you must let go of all the negative energy. If you always think positive it is a fact that you are indeed lying to yourself to cover up whats really the source of the problem.

I like that term, Cryne28, a REALISTIC OPTIMIST! I tend 2 call MYSELF an OPTIMISTIC PESSIMIST! Deep down, I KNOW things WILL work out 4 the BEST, in ALL situations, but the "pessimistic" side of me, also, thinks about ALL that could go "wrong" in any given situation. I think I'm pretty "balanced" in this, though, if there really IS a such thing as a "balanced" person! Thanks!

Think positive, be positive, speak positive your subconsious mind will automatically make everything positive around you.

I like this, havefunoo7, in THEORY! But what does 1 do if they've had alot of "negative" things happen in their lives, particularly in their CHILDHOOD, which is when the subconscious mind is really formed?! It's been said that those 1st 5-9 years of your life are the most CRUCIAL, as far as what information is being imprinted on your psyche. If it's NEGATIVE, then, no matter HOW "positive" u THINK, u will still have 2 deal with your NEGATIVE conditioning, and HEAL from it, and I don't believe that just your SURFACE thoughts will heal that, because a bunch of negative EXPERIENCES will produce a bunch of negative BELIEFS, which are hard 2 "shake"! U may recite "positive" things on the OUTSIDE, but they MAY be NEGATED by your UNDERLYING "negative" beliefs. REAL healing is needed in this case, NOT just "surface" talk! I appreciate your response though.
