Do you speed when driving, or do you always follow the speed limit?

Personally I love to drive fast, and see whip around corners. The melding of man and machine and all that. That being said, I do feel as if I must follow a speed limit if one is posted. I have a very hard time "breaking the rules" as I know they are there for everyone's safety. So what about you, are you a lead foot, or do you always follow the speed limit? For what reason to you speed, or not speed?

I do not do it intentionally, but I do have a heavy foot. I got three speeding tickets in a two year period, and had a fender bender the same time. I was in danger of losing my license if I had gotten that 5th point. My husband scolded me every time I walked out the door with keys in hand. They have since fallen off as I have been a good girl, and not gotten caught again, but there are times that I look down at my speedometer and go WHOA... And NOOO Trans I did not thank the troopers for ticketing me!!!!

Each ticket was about 150.00 plus court costs, in my own defense the road I acquired the tickets on is a straight country highway between my home town and Chattanooga, very little traffic and a speed limit of 55, insane, Especially since most of the new highway is four lane. And yes all three tickets were on the same stretch of road. Same trooper got me twice. Thankfully the third one was a new one... (hanging my head in shame... Now you understand why my husband scolded every time I had to make that trip.

Angelwshipers, yeah that's pretty bad when the same trooper keeps getting you in the same spot. But we're all human...at least the rest of you are... Trans, man oh man how do I get on the good side of the police like that? Please tell me. I guess it would help if I didn't blare the song "f da police" everytime I see one in my car. I used to wonder why I have *never* been let off with a warning. If I get pulled over I'm getting a ticket. So your wife had to change vehicles? Dang, I'm starting to rethink my whole "I'm buying a sports car" idea. Okay I rethunk it... I'm still getting one.

I haven't had a ticket for anything accept "failure to show proof of insurance," in the last 10-15 years. Before people start chastising me, I had and have insurance it's just sometimes I forget to carry a new insurance card on my person, or forget to put it in my car. So uh, how expensive are speeding tickets where you live? They're outrageous where I live.

That depends on the freeways I tend to have a lead foot and a paper @ss but the speed limit on the freeways here is 75 so it's quite easy to get carried away. Other than that I try not to do more than 5 mhr over the speed limit, except in school zones I usually do under the limit. I don't like tickets they cost entirely way to much

Must be nice having a freeway that is 75 m.p.h. Here all the highways are 65, but people alwayd do at least 75-80. I've has friends who were pulled over and given tickets for "obstructing traffic" who were doing the speed limit. Talk about crazy...

I'm learning to drive and it's actually pretty hard to follow the speed limit. Especially when your coming off a fast road and into a town. I can see why people have problems following the limit but it's best to try. I haven't caught the speed bug yet, i'm still too scared.

It will get easier as you get more experienced, which is true of just about anything. I'm not sure if you are driving a stick or automatic, but in a manual drive car, you can use your gears to keep you at a legal speed limit pretty easily.

I like driving fast too. Usually I'm overspeeding about 10-20km/h. Sometimes I follow speed limit, but sometimes I exceed speed limit more than 100km/h than allowable speed-limit. But I do that only when it's safe to me and others and when in the road are slightly cars.

I've been known to open her up on occasion also. I remember driving 700 miles in less than 6 hours on a road trip once. That was fun.

I try to stay with the flow of traffic. Around here that usually means a good 20 mph over the speed limit on the freeway. Thanks for commenting.

The sensation of driving fast is good, indeed. Specially if you have a nice car (which is not exactly my case). But I'm way too careful, and I admit I'm not the best driver around, so I try to follow all the rules and be as responsible as I can.

It is fun to drive fast. It's even more fun when have the roads to yourself and some really agressive music cranked up. However, much like you I try to follow all the rules and be responsible also. Thanks for sharing laridbz.

well, i don't drive but my husband does... i always make sure that he follows the speed limit as it is for our safety and other people's safety as well... the road toll here is getting higher and higher and it is because of either speed driving or drink driving... it is such a pity that many lives are wasted just like that because of some people's stupidity... also, the penalty here for speed driving is quite severe now... so better adhere to the rules... it is there to protect us as well...

I agree with you, but people still love to go fast. It is a safety issue, and I really don't want to pay the tickets either.

Hello Filmbuff, Hey Congrat's on your 500th post! Whew, yeah, and all that congratulatory stuff! Gotta' admit it, I love to fly! Geesh, I took my driving test years ago in a muscle car. And, I still love fast cars today. To anyone who knows me casually, it seems contradictory to my otherwise law abiding standing. But, it's true, my little secret's outa' the bag ... I do have a lead foot. I wouldn't speed if I didn't drive cars that were designed for speed and handling, because that would truly imperil others. But, if a car is designed to move and maneuver at high speeds, and stop on a dime, and if the driver is sober, skilled, attentive and aware I figure I'll take the risk, if I don't endanger others. I'm not an aggressive driver, meaning that I don't crowd or tail-gate other drivers. It's when I'm out on the highway (which is scarcely travelled comparatively speaking, since we live in the middle of nowhere) or on our desolate country roads that I like let it rip. Shhhh, don't tell, o.k.?

Thanks for the congrats ladyluna, I have a feeling that I'll be congratulating you soon. I love going fast too, I just feel compelled not to when I know I am breaking the law. So what kind of car do you drive, you have me curious. I've wanted a full on sports car my entire life but keep shying away from them. I think though, I'm going to break down and buy one soon.

It can be really easy to speed if you have heavy foot or are not constantly paying attention. Thanks so much for posting.

Well for me,sometime i'll follow the speed limit if i'm in a good mood. But If i'm not a good mood i'll go fast as i can. I'll drive very fast if someone make me angry, for example in highway. There is a person who drive very slow and that person stay on the speed lane.I've already gave a signal to move away and give me a way. That person just ignore mt signal and keep staying on the speed lane.

Eek, becareful man you're starting to sound like road rage just waiting to happen. It is though inconsiderate for people to drive fast in the slow lane, or slow in the fast lane...unless of course they need to be in those lanes to merge, or get off the freeway.

No, I avoid doing that, as I am a law abiding person. I do not want to harm others or cause any injury to myself, so I try not to break the speed limits. I think speed rules are made for the safety of all, to safegaurd people so that they can safely reach back to there loved ones. One should follow these rules.

I agree with you totally. There is just something inhierently dangerous about millions of people barreling around in metal boxes that weigh several tons at high speed.

As I grew older (with family not age), I've tempered the speed quite a bit. I never really was a speed demon but would pick it up a notch on the highways. Inner city travel, I've always kept to the limits. I guess I've seen too many people get hit in the city due to speed and inattentiveness.

When I was younger I used to drive a lot faster, much more often. I had my own speed limits. 50 m.p.h. in the city, 90 on the freeways. I've toned way down.

Yeesh, avoid driving at all until it's legal. Let alone driving fast. It is fun driving fast, but do you really think you're qaulified to test the "extreme limits" of your vehicle? I can understand if you take it to a race track or speedway, but not on the open roads. Thanks for posting alpine.

In this century, there is no slow ride such the horses or bull. People now have money to buy car, very very fast and powerful car. Why must he drive slow or follow the speed limit if he buy a speedy car.

I guess it depends on your definition of slow. The reason is safety. How would you feel about someone driving by your house or apartment where your children play at 150 miles per hour, just because they are rich enough to afford a fast car?

I try to avoid speeding. I usually do go just a tiny bit above the speed limit, but not enough to get me in trouble. In the past, I used to speed a lot, but now I try to be more careful cause I'm always afraid of getting tickets. lol

I used to always speed. I loved the way it felt to drive fast. Since I had my son though, my attitude has changed. I have more to live for and I want to be around to see him grow up. I don't speed as much as I did but every once in a while I will catch myself speeding. I still like speed but I am more afraid of something happening to me or him while I am driving so I have slowed down.

I follow the law, so I don't speed. Also, I want to make sure that no other users of the road get hurt, so I don't speed. I also don't speed because I like to get places safely and I don't want to lose control of my car.

I also love speeding, drive slow make me fell like sleeping. But in my country the max speed limit is 110km/h.But i used to drive over than that limit. But when the time come for busy traffic, all cars move like snail, very hate when stuck in high traffic.
