I Owe My Mother!

I received this in my email and would like to share it with you. As I read it, I could almost hear my own mother, saying many of these lines to me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 1. My mother taught me to appreciate a job well done. "If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning." 2. My mother taught me religion. "You better pray that will come out of the carpet." 3. My mother taught me about time travel. "If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!" 4. My mother taught me logic. " Because I said so, that's why." 5. My mother taught me more logic. "If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me." 6. My mother taught me foresight. "Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident." 7. My mother taught me irony. "Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about." 8. My mother taught me about the science of osmosis. "Shut your mouth and eat your supper." 9. My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM "Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!" 10. My mother taught me about stamina. "You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone." 11 My mother taught me about weather. "This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it." 12. My mother taught me about hyprocisy. "If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!" 13. My mother taught me the circle of life. "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out." 14. My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION. "Stop acting like your father!" 15. My mother taught me about envy. "There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do." 16. My mother taught me about anticipation. "Just wait until we get home." 17. My mother taught me about receiving. "You are going to get it when you get home!" 18. My mother taught me medical science. "If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they are going to get stuck that way" 19. My mother taught me ESP . "Put your sweater on; don't you think I know when you are cold?" 20. My mother taught me humor. "When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me" 21. My mother taught me how to become an adult. "If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up." 22. My mother taught me genetics. "You're just like your father." 23. My mother taught me about my roots. "Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?" 24. My mother taught me about wisdom. "When you get to be my age, you'll understand." And my favorite: 25. My mother taught me about justice. "One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you".

Isn't it funny how so many mothers end up saying the same exact things.

We all do it. I caught myself quite often and did a little foot stamping because of it. I wonder if my mother did the same when she repeated something her mother had said? Probably so.

I know what you mean Elusive, I could hear my mum as well. Thanks, I really enjoyed reading these.lol I have a couple I will always remember. My mum also taught me about the medical profession. "Put that stick down, you could have someones eye out with that" My mum taught me justice. "Woe betide if you do that again"

Ha ha.... and the biology ones. If the wind changes you'll keep that look on your face and you'll trip over your bottom lip if you don't stop sulking. Good discussion topic.

My mother would say "I hope your face doesn't freeze like that". I would run to the bathroom to see what I would look like. Everytime I passed by a mirror I would check to see if I looked good. What if my face did freeze? I wouldn't want to look bad.

This is great, not only can I hear my mothers voice saying a lot of these things, I can hear myself saying some of them to my children as they were growing up, even though I said I never would.

Thank you for choosing this as best answer and for helping me remember happy times with both my mum and my children.

I too can almost hear my mother saying most of those things. I have said a few to my son also. I especially like that last one. My grandsons were driving my son nuts one day and I reminded him of that mothers curse.lol.

My mother tells me that my children are nothing like me. Perhaps they truly are like their father.

ROFL!! Let me tell you, I know all about JUSTICE. According to my mom, my oldest daughter acts exactly the same as I did when I was her age. I can only imagine what's going to come.

oh my friend, my dearest friend, I am still here laughing and laughing!!!it is wonderful!!! oh thanks for sharing! I think I am showing it to any friends I met with today!!! do you know what it the funniest thing of all about this? The fact that mothers and children are so similar no matter where they live. I can remember my mother telling the same exact words to me and my brothers and we live in Italy and you live in US. As for your favourite, it seems to be my mother's favourite and now that my elder brother has three twins of his, she is always laughing at him because they are turning to be just like he was and so she laughs and laughs!!!

These are really great, and I can relate to so many of them, as taught by my mother. She's been gone for many years, but it seems like just yesterday I heard some of these. The one about 'the clean underwear' sticks out in my mind for some reason, as the one she'd always say. Another one I heard often was "You finish everything on that plate, because there are children starving on the other side of the world.":)

This is hilarious and so true. I always wonder where my mother gets all the stuff she is saying...hahahaha. Reading her makes me miss her so much. I am expecting and she is still in my native country and like my first pregnancy, I miss her like crazy because when she told me everything will be allright, I really believe that everything will be as long as my mother will be there by my side. Thanks for sharing this.
