Am I doing this wrong???

I just checked out the discussions with no responses and saw that a lot of people have 4 or 5 discussions where they only ask questions. I usually try to get at least 2 paragraphs in since it says to be as descriptive as possible and more details get more responses. Do discussions with just a question get a lot of responses? Am I wasting time when I "get into" the subject I'm writing about? Do those writers get the same credit that people with longer discussions do?

They might get a lot of responses, but I'm not sure if they make the same amount of money. Often discussions that are just a question wind up deleted when mylot cleans up at the end of the month, and no one makes any money for a deleted discussion. I have found by comparing stats with other users that I make a lot more per response than some of them do. I don't actually make that many posts (I've been here since January, and have less posts than many people who joined after me.) However, I just paid about $35 for April. I also try to make my discussions more detailed, because I would assume they make more money, just as well-written responses make more money.

I think I've learned more just reading this response than I will reading 99 of them. Thanks for all of the good information. I didn't realize that the site cleaned up at the end of the month but I can see how because of ratings one member might earn more per response than another.

Glad I could help! =) The cleanup thing is a big deal. Every time it happens, you get a lot of people complaining about their earnings and post counts going down. However, I've found that most of the time I haven't been affected, because I'm pretty careful about what I respond to and post.

Excellent thank you for that advice! I'm gradually finding my way round mylot now, I keep picking up these helpful little hints when I'm having a look around. Most people are so friendly and helpful. Thanks you :0)

No, you are not doing it wrong there is a reason why those 'short discussions' have no responses - good members won't waste their time responding to them because there is a good chance they'll get deleted - myLot wants quality.

Thank you for the response and letting me know at least I'm doing something right...lol...I certainly woulndn't want to spend time responding to a discussion only to have it deleted and not get credit for it.

It all depends what they are asking. I think its better to ask the question then explain yourself with a short paragraph or however long it takes to do so. Getting into the subject is good I think.

Since this site is all about discussion unless we are given pros and cons of a subject how can it be discussed? To me a question like what is your favorite whatever isn't much of a discussion.

I don't know but I think the more descriptive you are the more money you make. That is what I have been told on myLot by other people.

I'm sure that has something to do with it or it wouldn't say that right next to the box that we write in would it?

I have also found out that some people have some discussions with the topic like: "wut is ur fav color?". I don't create discussions like that. Even if it's a question, I try to explain the reasons for me to be asking it, and what kind of answer I am looking for. It's not a waste of time, believe me. I only answer big discussions (more than 3 lines). I rarely reply to those "3 words" discussions.

Yes, unless the writer lets us know their thoughts on it how are we to write a reasonable response? Also, this is supposed to be a site for discussions and you can't discuss something that basically says nothing can you?

I don't know if I am really getting your point. You mean, how can you answer something that doesn't need an answer... right?

After reading the guidelines again it seems that it's probably a big job for mylot to figure out payment for this site so they don't have anything written in blood so to speak. I also see where members aren't supposed to talk about it either so I'll stop now. Thanks for the response though.

make a habit of not answering those one liner discussions. If they get deleted you lose points and earnings for the responses on them also. GRUMPY GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thanks for the advice and I will follow it. Not that it would be hard. I'm a talker and find it hard to respond to those discussions. If they have nothing to say then I would have nothing to say in response.

I don't beleive you are wasting your time when you are being more descriptive . This is what MyLot would like us to do and I believe this is what pays us better . I myself prefer a question that gives more detail so there is more to answer to then just a simple quick question as I don't believe those pay as much . If the question does not have some quality to it , it will be deleted later on and they will lose points on this resulting in a loss of money on their part . Like the saying goes " it is better to do it right the first time then to have to do it again later , and it is better to always give your best then to only give part of what you can give " .

That's a good saying I'll have to remember that. Detail seems to be the main point here and I'm going to have to remember that when I'm starting a discussion. Thanks for the info!

The reason I respect MyLot so much as a paying website is because they prefer quality over quantity. Users that just post three word questions or responses really get on my nerves, as they are taking advantage of the benefits of this website. When I post a discussion or a response, I am detailed, as MyLot themselves ask you to be as detailed as possible. x

You are doing the right thing and they are doing the 'lazy' thing. Your way makes a lot more sense and should generate more value than the one liners do. Sometimes they get a lot of responses, but not too often. And no, they do not get the same credit as people that post 'quality' discussions, they in the long run will end up getting less than the rest of us. It also really helps if you are active in your own discussions. Not just posting a discussion and then leaving it without ever responding. Mylot looks for that too. :)

I'm learning more with every response that I read and I appreciate all of the help everyone is giving me. There isn't much I'm lazy at and I'm not going to make mylot one of them.

I knwo that this has been said before but the folks that only ask questions or put in 1 or 2 sentences are doing it wrong. Those people believe they will get paid more for doing a whole bunch of little posts. Here ae my stats. I have done around 540 posts and I have made just under $28.00 total. It takes a lot of people close to 1000 posts to make this type of payout. My secret. I'm not really here for the money. It's just a nice little perk. I love the discussions. I love to talk and gab and shoot the.... yeah! My posts are generally quite lengthy. I think this is the reason I have a good payout.

That is good! be as descriptive as you can. Everything to be posted should have quality, be as informative as you can. Although sometimes, it do really hurt coz it consume lots of your time for just one response. =( . I am not quite sure how many points you may earn for each compared to the others.

I think the amount of responses a discussion get depends upon a lot of factors. It also depends upon the number of friends and how famous you are in this community, and i tell you this factor alone affects a lot. The discussions with a question can attract lot of responses provided that the discussion has the crux impact on to the minds and question itself is a biilion dollar question. i usually check first my frends discusisons and then i go on responding the discusisons which i genuienly like this makes me easy go with a flow! WHen i open discusisons the info i write while starting the discussion solely depends upon the matter to be discussed, and i tell you discussions with questions have very little to write at start - its a question - thats it it defines all!!

Exactly, it's a question and what we are supposed to do here is start discussions. Totally different if you ask me.

Good question... I was thinking the same thing. I've been trying to think of a topic that is interesting enough for people to respond, but so far, the best I've gotten out of it was 3 responses. And this was for the simplest post- "What can't you live without this summer?" or something. So now I'm starting to think that only simple questions get more responses, although in fairness, I've seen a lot of great discussions started on this site. I just feel like with so many to choose from, it's hard to come up with a discussion that will actually stand out enough to get people to respond. Or maybe I just need to get more people on my friends list or something. It's true that longer discussions may get more earnings, but in the end, what we can make out of this site is really small, and the main thing for most of us it to engage other people's thoughts and opinions. I haven't found the magic formula yet, but if I do, I'll be sure to post it :)

I for one will be watching for that formula to come from you. I think if we just keep on posting discussions no matter how big they are and responding to others we will make out pretty good. Good luck!

Think of it more as the quality is worth much much more than the quantity. But yeah, there are factors that affect the quality. In myLot's case, your reputation I believe is a key factor. So in the beginning, I believe we should try to build up our reputation with quality responses. Personally, you should just reply and start discussions on things you actually care about. I don't think there's a point to posting to something you don't really care about. Most people who think that way, are just money-driven. And that's not myLot's main focus. It's a nice perk, for sure. So good luck with your goal man. Best of luck to you.
