I know this is probably a silly question, but I really want to know what glitter is made from. I tried to do a search on it and all that I could find was online stores that sell glitter. So if anyone knows, do tell.

I found this information about glitter at this website: http://www.uhlfeldergoldleaf.com/glitter.htm Glitter Glitter is similar to bronze and aluminum powders in giving a metallic look to a medium but the particles are always distinct. They range in size from .002" square (barely visible) to a chunky 1/4 inch. They are made of plastic, aluminum or polyester foil, coated with lacquer containing transparent dyes, and then precision cut to a multitude of sizes and shapes. The basic types of glitter are: Plain Coated - for decorative, short term applications where the glitter is dusted on dry and not exposed to solvents. Epoxy Coated - either aluminum or polyester foil for exposure to solvents, heat and sunlight Ultra Stardust - a shimmery pearlescent mix of subtle shades on white background Glitter is non-tarnishing and available in a wide variety of colors and packaging. I don't know if this is exactly what you were looking for but I hope it satifies your curiosity.

Thanks, that was really informative. I mostly wanted to know if it was made of metal or not. This is probably going to sound weird, but I ordered this stuff called orgonite. Orgonite is a substance made from a resin base and it's filled with metal shavings, crystals, and other bits. It's used for meditation and for getting rid of negative energy. The orgonite that I got had glitter in it. I couldn't understand why it had glitter in it. But if some glitter is made from metal, then that explains why the orgonite had glitter in it.

Well I guess from what I read some glitter is made from aluminum so that could be why there is glitter in the orgonite. It will add a sparkle to your life! :)
