I live in a wonderful mobile home park. There are probably 100 families here if not more. Its down in a gully right by the river. Recently we got a letter in the mail stating that they want to close us down and make this a natural wildlife area. I love nature and I love wildlife. But there are families who would be devastated if they had to move. Some mobile homes have been here so long that to move them would probably tear them apart. Most people here are the working poor. So trying to spend money for a new place to live and move their mobile homes would be very hard. Since I am moving to Arizona in July it really does not affect me. But my son was gonna stay here and take care of everything. If they do make everyone move . This mobile home wont be moving. It will probably just fall apart. I don't know how they can just up and move people out of their homes. But i guess it is legal. Anyone have any advice?? Anyone ever been uprooted by the city??

No, I have never encountered this type of problem. The mobile homes I owned were on my own property. I have known many people who have lived in mobile home parks. My sister in law lives in one and your right, if they tried to move some of those homes they would fall apart, because they have been there for so long and they have settled into the area where it has sat for so long. Plywood doesn't have much give, especially the older models. Usually if they do this, they will offer the owners of the homes a modest compensation to assist with costs, sometimes they don't. You can petition the city to stop it. If you have enough signatures and everyone refuses to move, then something might be done. I wish you the best of luck on this sitaution.

I really hope that this situation has a positive resolution for everyone. Sometimes it isn't like that but one can only hope. It is difficult! Anyhow, I hope the city can make a compromise that will work for both parties involved. Thanks for the best response rating, I am so flattered!

Wow, I just wanted to say that's terrible, and I really feel for all the families. Not sure if it's already been done, but maybe start a petition. It sounds silly but sometimes that's all it takes to get the city to rethink their decisions. I feel awful for the mobile homes that wont make it. :( Are you friends with any of the neighbors? Maybe ask them what their plans are. Maybe they already have a plan in place. I hope so. I like wildlife too, but not at the cost of people losing their homes.

If your home is that old, perhaps its time it was gotten rid of. Its probably mot safe any more. They really want you to move because they are expecting the rivers to flood dangerously in the next few years. If you live on the flood plain, you could get washed away in your sleep. It happened here in Alberta just 2 years ago, and thousands of mobiles and cottages were destroyed. i know one man whose cottage was found in 3 pieces nearly 10 miles downstream, and my ex's cottage that was nearly 50 feet from the river was moved 20 metres

If you are on the flood palin, you are not high enough. People discover that the hard way every year.

Maybe so but right now its all I have to live in. So goes the same for others. I would be leaving on the streets without my house. as for the river flooding. we are high enough from it that it cant get to us. So not worried about that.

I think it's bad. I was wondering are they willing to help others to find a place? I had this happened to my aunt and she live at the same place for 30 years and then they had to move but since she owned the house they bought it I think it was either the city or the airport bought it and bought rest of the homes to so the owners can find another place. I am sure that your neighbors are pretty upset by this.

Compensation is a must - they cannot just move you out without anything - it will be best if everyone in the park gets organized and all go together and demand adequate compensation. If this doesn;t work then legal advice might be needed. I am not sure but if it comes to this I think they could be made to pay any legal costs. Hope you are successful.

I was so exited about finally getting my own place. It was a nice small 2 bedroom town house with a small little porch in a quiet neighborhood. I had no kids at the time so it was perfect for me, most of my neighbors were elderly people or loners with alot of cats. I got a letter stating that a local redevelopemnt company was tearing down all the houses in my area it was their right because of eminent domain they wanted to build a shopping center that included walmart, lowes Theatre and a few other stores. I was absolutely devestated because the house was perfect for me at the time it was nice, clean, cheap and in a good neighborhood, and I also felt bad for the elderly people who lived in the neighborhood who refused to live in a senior citizens home. The shopping mall today still stands however the only thing that is still open is Walmart and Burger King. I dont beleive in eminent domain that is terrible a big corporation can just come to a City and tear down the little guys. That is not right.

It would have worked out for me in the long run because it was much too small for anyone with kids. I feel sorry for the seniior citizens who lost there homes many have lived there 20+ years

I wish I had some great idea to stop this from happening, but I don't. I hate you have to go through it all. I hope that you get moved before they decide to begin. And good luck in your move.

Well I have a great respect for nature and think we need to conserve as much of our land as possible....I also think that they should offer some money for all this to happen. I know if it was me..I wouldn't have the funds available to move, especially if I couldn't move my home. I've never had this happen to me or anyone I knew. But I've seen news stories and usually they are bought out...I hope this happens in your case.

Like i said i love nature too and this would be a beautiful place for it. I know some people don't want to move because they love the beauty and scenery that we have here. But hopefully they will at least compensate people if they do make them move.

You write them back, explaining your trailer's situation, and demand that if they want you to move, they buy you a new trailer, or the money for at least half of the price.

Not sure if it is legal but are mobile homes legal in the first place? Is that land the home park on free to use? Otherwise, going by the law, you can't really say anything.

If you live in a legal development set up for mobile homes, then the state has to give sufficient notice and they have to help all those families who are in need, re-locate to another place that is of at least equal value, or they are responsible for purchasing the mobile homes so that those families can relocate. That is, of course, if this is all legal. They cannot just kick everyone out without proper notice or restitution.
